Excerpt from an article on the Jazz Fest

Times Picayune, March 26, 2013
http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/...s_to_be_m.html

More of a challenge is Saturday, May 4’s headlining set, which puts two of the most eagerly anticipated shows of the 2013 fest right up against each other: Fleetwood Mac on Acura versus Frank Ocean at Congo Square. And Sunday, May 5 demands that festgoers choose between old-school and new-school, as Trombone Shorty steps into the prestigious festival closing slot on the Acura Stage, while Aaron Neville takes a solo turn to end the day at Gentilly.

Gee, um, which one shall I pick? Fleetwood Mac or Frank Ocean. Help me somebody. I can't decide.

I'm not familiar who Frank Ocean is But I do like Billy Ocean's music.
Are they related?

Well this information reveals to us that the FM set will be one hour and fifty minutes in length.

I was puzzled by that too. Maybe Frank Ocean is really hot in NOLA, in ways that don't translate to the rest of the country.

Not putting him down. I'm just saying, if you have to make a choice ...

They better have shortened it for this festival. The regular setlist better be over 2 hours.

They are the most annoying band in the world.

I agree, but also believe they shortened it per the Festival guidelines...looks like LBT leaves stage and there is a 45 min (?) intermission to get the Mac set up.

Yeah, I guess they could take stage at 5:00pm, but with the Mac (fingers crossed) if they are jamming and the crowd is having a blast...I doubt they will end right at 7:00.

Are you really that unaware of how popular Frank Ocean is?
I am traveling to Jazzfest to see Fleetwood Mac because I've
been a fan for over 30 years, but, the person I was most interested
in seeing was Frank Ocean.

So glad nothing was dropped the second night, I think this is a good sign that nothing will be dropped until JF. (and it might even become the NEW setlist) Sorry, folks...I just have that feeling

But, by my calculations(thay are often wrong) The band is currently on stage a good 2 1/2 hours plus room for talking, intros, encore waiting, etc.

What I am worried about is what Will get cut to fit an hour and 50 mins? Even though Sara is good, I have a feeling it might be one of them. But what else? Some of the longer songs like GDW and So Afraid, World Turning could be shortened, but I don't want them gone.

Any ideas here folks?

That is funny! I didn't even know who Frank Ocean was till I heard girl group Fifth Harmony cover his song Thinkin Bout You, and I must say it was a huge improvement on his original IMO.
Interesting Little Big Town plays right before the Mac kinda wish I was planning on going.

i dunno. Jazz Fest is pretty tightly controlled.. the Fair grounds is basically in a residential neighborhood.. so no one usually plays much past the 7pm 'curfew'

Thanks for the insight....sure puts a damper on my "jam session/crowd pleasing" continuation.

After the show, I plan on going to The Maison to hear Smoking Time Jazz Club. Ever seen them or heard them play? They are amazing!

7 PM seems so early for a Sat. night noise curfew, especially in NOLA. But you're right, they do run a pretty tight ship during JF. I hope they don't drop anything, but looks like they may have to...and considering it's a festival crowd filled with people who are not just there to see F. Mac, I'm afraid the new ones will be dropped. They MUST keep SOTM, it's got the perfect spookiness that suits NOLA. Or they just say, "screw the curfew, we're playing our full set, send the bill for the fine to our manager."
