Default Deanna and Condi Rice

Well I gotta say today was one interesting day.

It started out like any other, already dreading going to work, mostly because I hate the whole 9-5 thing....I was bitter, also, because I am suffering from lack of sleep and just wanted to sleep in.

Well, I'm at my computer this morning when Juan Williams comes over and asks for my social security number and date of birth...I'm confused by this request...but figure..hey, it's Juan Williams, he won't rip me off...

Well, later I come to find out he's interviewing Condoleeza Rice, in her office at the White House and he decided to take me along!

So, I went to the West Wing today....sat in Condi's office...all that good stuff...got to sit in on the whole interview.

Then, Juan took me on a tour of where the press hangs out at the White House, I met our WH corespondant, Don Gonyea....and as we were leaving the press started heading outside. Juan asked why and they said the president was about to leave....so we went along.

There I am, in the garden right outside of the oval office...like we could see into the oval office...and then the big helicopter lands....THAT was cool...except I nearly fell over from the wind....then here comes Bushy...

there weren't a tremendous amount of people there so when he passed me he looked right at me, I was unresponsive, then he smiled and waved, I thought it would have been innapropriate to flip him off...and wasn't convinced he wouldn't have had me killed had I done that, I went ahead and smiled and waved...then he boarded the helicopter and off he went....

Very exciting day for me indeed....just thought I'd share

Whenever I get that feeling of inner turmoil, I just think about how I need to act and nothing about the inner turmoil. In other words, in a professional setting, even though I may be dealing with a jerk (which happens far too often IMO ) - I try and always take the higher road. I never act like I think or, perhaps more importantly will think later, is lowering myself to the level of the person I am not fond of, etc. Of course, there are times when, like everyone else, I lose it But that has happened maybe once on a professional level. I mean I learned along time ago, I am there to be a professional; they never asked my personal opinion - so I stick to the job and rarely stray in that type of situation - Does that make any sense Plus, I do not want to be fired

I want a Barney sighting!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at you, Deanna.... you're "big time" now!

I'll look back when you're famous and say... "I used to chat with her on The Ledge when nobody knew her...." LOL

Luckily you didn't turn to stone. What a great experience! No matter who the sitting president is, it's always cool to go to the White House.
I've gotta ask though, what was Condi like?

Good for you, D.
Now, when Bush looked at you, was there a Clintonesque "Hi, Monica!" gleam in his eyes? Watch your step!
Seriously, obviously people have big plans for you if you're being brought along.

Deanna - I CAN IMAGINE.

Let me say, I think you have the coolest job ever. I love NPR and would probably trip over myself meeting any of those people - even though I don't know what the hell they look like. I worship at the altar of Terry Gross.

I have been there. Not the White House, but dealing with people whose political views I abhor. One of my first gigs was working on a political commercial for Bob Packwood back in Oregon. I was operating the boom and wanted to smack his smug, balding head with it.

I was merely a pup, and needed the work.

Feeling pent up, I asked my boss how he dealt with it. He said, "It's a job, man. We're all whores when you get down to it. Just do your job, and vote."
Still, I felt cheap whoring myself out for 125 a day !

Pretty good advice though, I guess.

Anyway, wanna swap jobs for a day ? I will hang out with the NPR people, and you can come to LA and hang out with whatever silly assed movie or TV stars I am working with.

Deal ?

I'm so proud of you Deanna. And you did the right thing--we may not respect the man in the office, but I guess we've got to respect the office itself, right? So wanna tell us what war criminals look like--you know--up close and personal????
