Default Another loss for Stevie (and us)

Another of her rock and roll friends (and possibly paramour) has passed away.

God this is so sad. We've lost so many great people this year already. I really hope that Stevie realises that the greats, such as Prince, don't live forever and she needs to give the world what she can while she still can.

Gutted.

You're exactly right.

Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks shared her heartbreak on Twitter, writing, "My friend is gone... This is what it sounds like, when doves cry. He was my dove...," while Mariah Carey also tweeted, "Genius, legend, inspiration, friend. The world will miss you. I'll never get over it."

I didn't want to post this in the Prince thread, but I was reading the post about Stevie's stories of him and the timeline didn't really add up... They met in 83, haven't spoken since the Purple Rain premiere (84) but yet he apparently picked her up after a FM show... which could have only been in 82 or 87? Oh Stevie

No, the Wild Heart sessions started since right after Bella Donna in 1981 to 1983, and the show she was picked up by Prince was a Mirage one.

She wrote Stand Back in Jan '83 and had him come over to HER to help her record it

but then he takes her back to HIS place to record something (write a song together) during a FM tour ... was this Mirage?? and did that happen BEFORE she wrote Stand Back??????? or was this during Tango? If she says she thinks they stopped being friends coz of drugs. And what song was it? Since it clearly wasn't Purple Rain if he sent her that on a diff occasion

How could Prince have picked Stevie up during a MIRAGE tour if they only met in 1983 SisterNightroad??????? since she said she called HIM up...to help her. they'd clearly never met before that

ETA: i agree, the timeline is DODGY

I only know she recorded overdubs on the Prince song "All over you". The song has been catalogued in 1985 but could be written before that. I don't know if Stand Back happened before All Over you or after, I just think it is more probable it was Mirage. The only thing we have is Stevie's memory and that isn't very reliable. Little Red Corvette went out in 1982 so she may very well have heard it and started working on Stand Back in 1982. All Over You can't be dated to the Tango period.

Stevie's timeline doesn't make any sense. We should be used to it by now
