There's a little bit of information here:

I've often thought about researching this a bit more.
Great article, reminds me of my teenage years around Brum, travelling to Walsall, West Brom and Wolverhampton...
I swear that Robert Plant once walked me to my bus (from youth-club) and told me I was a terrible kisser!!!!!
I was only 15..

Veering off topic I know, but Robert Plant is still quite often seen in and around Stourbridge, where he went to my old school. He used to gig a lot in the Town Hall way back when. There were three Stourbridge bands that had a fair amount of success in the 90s- Pop will eat itself, Ned's Atomic Dustbin and the Wonder Stuff (Not that I know much about them, sadly...) so there's a bit of a musical tradition for the place. I'm pleased that the Mac has some sort of root there, however briefly...

This article (and others) identify the band as Shades of Blue. Maybe Chris and the other musicians never settled on a definite name. I doubt that that band existed for very long.
