Jason knows that, he was just being polite, and it was a bar, afterall, which was quickly filling up with smoke and free-running alcoholic beverages. I was sipping on my chocolate martini, myself.

I was was standing there. Jason said, "Buy you a brandy, Mick? Or anything else?"

Mick smiled and said, "No thanks".

Jason did, however, buy a round of whatever they were drinking for the entire FM party, and believe me, no one was insulted.

Actually, I have been faced with this situation before - so a few years ago I looked up what to do in the Vanderbilt book of etiquette, which says you offer a recovering alcoholic whatever they want to drink if you do not know them and let them have the choice. It is supposed to be a better, less humiliating if you will, way of doing things. However, if you know them and know they cannot control themselves, then either do not invite them or politely tell them it is non-alcoholic beverages only for them.

Also, my friend the psychologist told me that if a recovering alcoholic is in a bar, he is either recovered enough in his program or he hit or is about to hit his head falling off of the wagon. (a little levity on a very serious subject )

Nonetheless, I agree with you, I did think about what I had said really only after it left my lips and felt a little bad. But, once it was out, it was out - also, if he would have accepted and ordered $500 a glass brandy, it would have been his believe me

Also, instead of "my walls are flamin," my credit card was flamin after that night
