That's some of the sort of stuff I'm doing. Nothing mathematically complicated thankfully.

Tony Iommi is the constant that I love on all the albums. The fact that he worked with so many great singers (and Ozzy ) it's a great bonus. I'm a really big fan of all Ronnie's work as well so having them both together is great.

I agree about Tony Martin. He had one awesome voice! It's not all still there any more, but he's still pretty damn good. The vocals on Headless Cross are indeed fantastic. I'd say they're the best vocal performance (technically) on a Black Sabbath album. Such range and power...

Speaking of Tony Iommi...The Rolling Stones' Rock & Roll Circus movie was just shown on PBS during their "pledge drive week" (aren't they ALWAYS in mid-"pledge drive"?).

Jethro Tull's appearance in that movie was filmed during Tony Iommi's short tenure in the band. It was odd seeing a lefty guitarist in Jethro Tull.

I've only seen small clips of that. I know he was miming the performance, but was it a song with slide guitar and he was miming it without a slide? I seem to remember there was something strange about it like that.

Tull are another of my favourite bands so I wonder how they would have sounded if Tony had stayed. I think his leaving was for the best since this way we got plenty of classics by both bands. I can't imagine Aqualung or Thick As A Brick would have turned out the same if Tony had still been there and I love those albums, especially TAAB.

I don't think anyone in the movie mimed, I think all performances were live.

It was during Shields & Yarnell's brief tenure in the band as well

You sure? It sounds like the vocals are live with a backing track.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1qiPttaS_w I found it on YouTube there is definitely a slide guitar there that Tony isn't playing. It looks like he's miming and all the stuff I've ever read about it on Sabbath/Iommi site say he was.
