Default Dirty Vegas

Well, I just got back from five days in Las Vegas at the Radio and Television News Director's Association at National Association of Broadcaster's convention!

I met Ted Koppel, I'll post our picture when I get them developed

I also got to see Oprah speak..but didn't get to actually meet her, but did get some cool up close shots of her

Sam Donaldson was around, but I never ran into him...and all in all it was really fun...

Though...I've now had my fill of Vegas for the next ten years! That city is crazy!!

Have any of you been? What are your thoughts on Vegas? Love it? Hate it? Don't care about it??

LOL....for a second there, I thought you were talking about the band.

I would have loved to have gone to that!!

How was Ted Koppel??? I can't wait to see the pictures

I've never been to Vegas but i'd love to go at least once. My dads brother and his wife go every month or two for a week.

Yeah...I really don't think Vegas is my type of town...I won't feel bad if I never go back...but I did have fun while there...but by yesterday I was sick to death of having people push nasty porn flyers in my face, and of the smoke and constant constant noise...Las Vegas is never quiet apparently lol...NOT my kind of place...

Ted Koppel gave a really compelling talk, as did Oprah....overall is was a very inspiring convention for journalists...it really re-lit the fire in me...I'm not very excited to graduate and move on to NPR!!

Arrow Cool

My parents and I went to Vegas in October 1998 on vacation (on our way to California, and the Grand Canyon...our first two week vacation LOL). We didn't spend a lot of time there, just one night. We stayed out till about 1AM (I know...late huh? LMAO!!) and didn't even hit many casinos. My fave was Caesar's Palace. Loved Excalibur too, but of course, I'm a castle freak. LOL

Didn't get to see the MGM Grand tho. My dad was bored, I guess. I had taken my new ID thinking I'd get carded at every place...never once. LOL We went to the Harrah's casino a couple of years earlier in Louisiana, and they wouldn't let me in without an ID. I was 21, but had no ID or license, so I took my birth certificate. They argued with my parents and FINALLY let me in after 10 minutes, but we stayed for maybe 5 minutes and left. LOL!! Waste of time.

I would love to go back someday and actually stay in a casino, we stayed at the Budget Inn off the strip. LOL!! We're not a gambling family, we just went for fun and to say we'd been to Vegas.

Yeah, I'm not a gambling person either...I work hard for my money...so I don't like to see if just dwindle down for no reason..I just don't find it fun...of course, all I did was four bucks at the nickel slots lol...I'm a high roller I tell ya!!

I didn't get carded either, and totally thought I would because people are always saying I look younger...even at the Ted Koppel dinner I didn't get carded and I loaded up on gin and tonics lol...

And Chili...Oprah's an NBC gal..but I didn't actually meet her lol...

I almost moved there in 2002. A great school in Summerlin (W. of Vegas) flew me out & offered me a position I came very close to taking. Between the facts that my pay would be much less and that some of my least favorite relatives moved out there, it wasn't worth it.
BTW, I think I'm the only person to have stayed overnight in Vegas and NOT seen the Strip. I was there for the demo lesson & interview. How could I say, Gee, I've never been here before, would you take me to the gambling, free booze, and showgirls?
Had I known that I wasn't going to take the job, I might have.

I have to be in the right frame of mind to go there. I love it for a few days at a time.

I went July 4th weekend to see the Mac. I stayed at the MGM Grand where the band played. It was my first time there. I left on the Friday, saw the Mac on Saturday and flew home to RI on Sunday. Needless to say I did not spend much time there.

I loved there! I loved the weather and it was hot BUT it was a DRY heat. I loved the mountains. I loved the energy of the strip.
I do not like smoke filled casinos myself. I think I spent a total of 2 dollars on the slots. I do like to bet on horses/dogs but I did not want to waste time sitting doing that when I could be out and about.

My 2 favorite hobbies are eating and shopping (window) and I did plenty of that in Vegas. I just went from casino to casino just taking in all of the sites and snapping photos.

I wanted to go back in October to see the Mac but it was more money then it was in July. Maybe they will add a Vegas date this year and I will hopefully get to go back.
