John Buys Home in Brentwood
John McVie buys Raymond Chandler haunt in Brentwood
The Brentwood home John McVie bought has original Spanish-style details and studio space February 18, 2015, 12:52 PM Los Angeles Times http://www.latimes.com/business/real...218-story.html Turns out the buyer of the Brentwood property that was briefly home to novelist-screenwriter Raymond Chandler was bassist John McVie of Fleetwood Mac fame.. The Spanish-style house sold last year for $2.535 million -- close to 6% above the $2.395-million asking price. Built in 1927, the 2,150-square-foot single-story retains such design features as a red-tile roof, interior arches and tile surrounding the wood-burning fireplace in the living room. There are French doors, two bedrooms and three bathrooms. A guesthouse, ideal for studio space, has heated concrete floors, a vaulted ceiling and solar panels. McVie, 69, joined Fleetwood Mac in the late 1960s and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band some three decades later. They continue to tour. Among their enduring hit songs are “Dreams,” “Go Your Own Way,” “Rhiannon” and “Don’t Stop.” Chandler, who died in 1959 at 70, wrote detective mysteries. Many of his novels, including “The Big Sleep,” “Farewell, My Lovely” and “The Long Goodbye,” were made into movies. He moved frequently and lived in the Brentwood house only a short time in 1942 while working on “The High Window.” The property previously sold for in 1995 for $612,000. Scott Behrle of Deasy Penner & Partners was the listing agent. Marcie Hartley of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, represented McVie. |

So he's going to be neighbors with Lindsey!
I wonder what spurred his return to LA? Access to medical care for his cancer treatments? Christine's return to the band, and the possibility of future recording with the Mac? Being on the mainland so he could be closer to his daughter?

Love to hear how humble John is owning a 2100 sf house. My house is 1900 sf. So its definitely not some huge mansion. Also the price just over 2 million he can pay cash after this tour will gross him at least 10 million.

His yard is probably not much bigger then mine.
He probably dont need a big place. The bigger the house is means more work to do for him or anybody that helps him.

I thought John had a place in LA already… in addition to Hawaii.
In the Destiny Rules doc, Mick teases John about his (John's) having to make the "long" drive from Woodland Hills to the Bellagio house in Bel Air where they were recording. I suppose John could have just been renting the Woodland Hills house, but honestly I think he is back and forth enough to LA for business and band and other reasons that he would have a place in both locations. So I'm betting this is just an upgrade to a better neighborhood. maybe he bought it for his daughter…….. Last edited by bombaysaffires; 02-18-2015 at 10:22 PM.. |

I would love to be his next door neighbor. More so probably than any of the others, except maybe Chris......she would also be fun. My guess is they are quiet neighbors, but would be hilarious to have a conversation with over the fence. And if you could convince them to have a couple of beer with you, well then......heaven.....!!!

From the size of the property I don't think there's much room for a mowable yard.
