Reunited Fleetwood Mac's Music Sales Surge

7:26 AM PDT 4/5/2014 by Keith Caulfield, Billboard, Hollywood Reporter

The act saw its album sales grow by 33 percent in the week ending March 30.

Fleetwood Mac's music sales have surged, thanks to the publicity generated by the group's reunion with singer/songwriter Christine McVie.

The act, which appeared on NBC's Today show on March 27 and gave a number of high-profile press interviews, saw its album sales grow by 33 percent in the week ending March 30, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's catalog of albums sold 10,000 copies for the week -- up from the 8,000 in the week previous.

Their biggest selling album for the week was the 1988 release Greatest Hits, which re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 200. On the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart, it returned to the chart at No. 32.

Fleetwood Mac's digital song sales also grew by 52 percent, rising from 20,000 to 30,000. Their largest seller for the week was "Landslide," which moved 4,000 downloads (up 45 percent).

EARLIER: Christine McVie Reunites With Fleetwood Mac

Billboard first officially confirmed McVie rejoining Fleetwood Mac in January, by way of the act's publicist, Liz Rosenberg.

McVie joined the band in 1970 after marrying the group's bassist, John McVie. She continued on with the group for the next 28 years as a principle songwriter, vocalist and keyboardist.

McVie wrote some of the act's biggest Billboard Hot 100 chart hits, including "Say You Love Me" (No. 11 peak, 1976), "Don't Stop" (No. 3, 1977), "You Make Loving Fun" (No. 9, 1977), "Hold Me" (No. 4, 1982), "Little Lies" (No. 4, 1987) and "Everywhere" (No. 14, 1988).

The current incarnation of the group -- with Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks -- will kick off the On With the Show concert tour on Sept. 20, 2014. It will be the first time the five have toured together since 1998.
