Tied is the easy way out, if it were an option, Gypsy and TITN would be tied on my list

Ok, the results are in and this is the Best album that us fans have chosen:

BL 14 votes vs love in store w/ 7
SW 14 votes vs cant go back 7
That's Alright 13 votes vs everywhere 8
Caroline 13 vs BOL 9
Gypsy 14 vs TITN 6
Mystified (???) 11 vs OOY 10
LL 20 vs ES w/ 1 (no surprise here, but I do like ES)
Stand Back..umm I mean Straight Back 13 vs FM 8
HM 17 vs WTTRS 3
IIM 16 vs Oh Diane 5
EOTW 18 vs WISYA 3
WYWH 12 vs Y&I 9

So, we have a tie amongst fans, Mirage 6, Tango 6 make the perfect album.
  • Some of you may be questioning why some songs received 20 votes, while others 21. Well, the calculations may be off be 1 or 2 pts, but no more.
  • In the event of a “TIE”vote (there were several), it was at my discretion to chose the winning song. Most times I would chose the one with least amount of votes (not that it really mattered at that point) Other times, for elle, or some posters I know a little better, I would chose the LB song, etc. This is why it is important (only in our happy lil FM community) to just chose “one”. Please don't make me decide.
  • Interestingly enough LB received 3 votes, SN 4, CM 5
  • I'm surprised (and secretly delighted) that WISYA and WTTRS received 3 votes each, none of them mine.

So, the Perfect 80's album/track listing according to us (rearrange as you please) is:

Big Love
Seven Wonders
That's Alright
Caroline
Gypsy
Mystified
Little Lies
Straight Back
Hold Me
Isn't It Midnight
Eyes of the World
Wish You Were Here

Hidden Bonus track: Tango In The Night

Thank you all for sharing input and ideas here. This, IMO is the only accurate way to gauge fans opinions to the albums/songs over the years, opposed to listing vote: Little Lies vs. Sugar Daddy, Rhiannon against WISYA, GYOW vs. WMYTYTO, etc.

This poll/thread also opens the door to many great discusions/ideas about what we, the fans like/dislike about our band. What works for us and doesn't work or appeal to us. Keep the conversation going, whether it is in agreement or not.

Special thanks to theWILDheart and elle for (hijacking)/developing/creating a new thread/discusion from this poll.

Viva La Mac!

I've never liked Mirage, far and away the weakest LB/SN/CM album IMO, but adore Tango and would place it in my top 3 Mac albums.

that's fine, ty for the response. Please all keep voting.

by all means, the above was not a final tally, just for keeping records.

I realized after I posted that the poll was only open (4-5 days) i thought it had been a week! Working a combo of 2nd/3rd shifts will do that to you.

Keep voting, all. Thx.

Mirage - 9
Tango - 3

I think Mirage is the stronger work. It was the last FM album to incorporate that great, lounging So. Cal pop/rock sound, FM's most "romantic" album to date. But Lindsey had the weakest material overall on both Mirage and Tango because he was working so hard to perfect everyone else's songs. Tango has also not aged very well with its synthetic productions. (Say You Will will have the same problem.)

isn't it ironic haha, no I love the song Can't Go Back, that was a very hard choice actually. It's not that I don't like Can't Go Back I just would rather listen to Seven Wonders if it came on shuffle.

I agree, some good to great songs but as for timeless production, I don't think so. Everyone (a hyperbole, but whatever) always talks about why Rumours etc ages so well and it has a lot to do with how it, and the first four albums, really don't sound like TITN or SYW, imo.

1. Love In Store vs. Big Love
2. Can't Go Back vs. Seven Wonders
3. That's Alright vs. Everywhere
4. Book of Love vs. Caroline
5. Gypsy vs. Tango In The Night
6. Only Over You vs. Mystified
7. Empire State vs. Little Lies
8. Straight Back vs. Family Man
9. Hold Me vs. Welcome To The Room Sara
10. Oh Diane vs. Isn't It Midnight
11. Eyes Of The World vs. When I See You Again
12. Wish You Were Here vs. You & I ii

Explanation:

1. Big Love is probably my favourite Lindsey song, I really love LIS too though... had to pick BL though
2. Not very hard to decide at all. Seven Wonders is Stevie's best off the album plus don't really like CGB
3. Just recently i have shown a really strong liking for That's Alright, so i had a frown a bit at this one, but I mean c'mon it's Everywhere. Everywhere is amazing!
4. I just love Caroline. Not sure if it's officially about Carol but it is in my head so I love it! I love when he trash talks (or sings) about her
5. Tango is good but not even close to Gypsy! Gypsy by far!
6. This was a really tough one to decide on. But i chose OOY because it's got a little kick to it. "I'm AAAAAAwta my mind" brilliance.
7. Very fews songs compete with Little Lies. LL is definetely one of my top 5 fav FM songs, and my fav Chris song!
8. Straight back is VERY underrated! It kinda reminds me of Dreams... :/ Not quite sure why... The lyrics are sheer genius
9. I do like WTRS but Hold Me is catchy as hell, and WTRS could put me to sleep.
10. Isn't It Midnight without a doubt! Oh Diane, is another one of my fav Lindsey songs, but IIM is freakin awesome! Rock On!!!
11. Chaned this one last minute, EOTW is really good, but I have recently shown an interest in WISYA, plus it's Stevie's soo...
12. WYWH kinda reminds me of Songbird, but it's still good. I chose Y&i2 because it's pretty catchy, lyrics are a little repetitive but who cares!?

Willamette Week, June 26, 2013 Reed Jackson on Fleetwood Mac

http://www.wweek.com/portland/articl...twood_mac.html

Unlike many other kids I know, my parents didn’t introduce me to Fleetwood Mac. Between my jazzhead father and Motown-loving mother, there were hardly any rock records in my house growing up. My love of the group isn’t rooted in childhood nostalgia. It is purely out of love for their tunes. As soon as I first heard “Dreams” on KBOO, I knew the Mac would become one of my favorites. A few years after I began collecting vinyl, I had nearly their entire discography on wax, from their early, bluesy stuff to 12-inch singles for huge hits like “Rhiannon.” Only one album was missing from my collection: 1982’s Mirage. Fans consider it their “sellout” record, but to me, that’s when the band’s organic sound found an alluring smoothness—“Gypsy” will forever be my summertime cool-out jam.

It took me about three years to find the album. Crusty, old record-store owners would laugh at me, asking why they would even consider keeping Mirage in stock. I dug through stacks of the band’s records, only to discover endless copies of Rumours and Heroes Are Hard to Find. Even Lindsey Buckingham’s solo albums were easier to find. Not even the dollar bins had a dinged-up version. Somehow, this had become my holy grail record—an album a lot of people probably adopted from their parents, then threw out.

In 2012, I flew down to L.A. to visit my girlfriend, who I’d been in a long-distance relationship with since meeting at the Goodfoot in Southeast Portland. Two days into the trip, we broke up. Dejected, I decided to do some shopping at Hollywood’s massive Amoeba Music record store. And that’s when I saw it: that beautiful, purple-tinged cover of Buckingham and Stevie Nicks dancing, all mine for the buying. I damn near cried. It was as if God said, in a burnt-out hippie voice, “Cheer up. Who needs a girlfriend when you have Stevie?”

When I got back to Portland, the first thing I did was open the windows to my overstuffed basement room and put the record on. “Gypsy” was as smooth as ever; “Hold Me” still catchy as hell. My world was finally whole.

Of course, I could have just ordered the album online years earlier. But what’s the fun in that?
