When I heard this song I thought it was written about missing his kids while on tour and when he came back they had grown. "When you were my baby" is a nostalgic way of remembering when they were younger and what he missed out on. kids grow so fast! Nice that K wrote with him.

I think the song works as a love song, but I actually think you're probably right -- that this is about his children (like "Not Too Late").

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

This is exactly what I thought when I heard the song. About the kids with the "baby" line and about the wife with the "Look at us now..." bridge. Totally about his family. Lindsey reuses a lot of metaphors in his songs, but I think they have a common theme in terms of meaning (to him) but are in reference to a variety of different people/things given his inspiration.
