Here's to hoping this cd was just an aberration.....

Right On!

This CD has just lackluster and mediocre tracks. The guitarplaying is soso, and the singing could have been done by anybody. Nothing special at all here. This is a failure of an album. All tracks could have been done by anybody. I don't hear anything of an own style or character. This is a 13 in a dozen type of record that doesn't appeal to anybody. If you're liking this album you're not honest to yourself. I wanna hear a LB-solo-album that sounds exact as the albums he did before that I love. We all know that he always does the same **** every album and this style-break doesn't fit at all. No, it's painful, but this man is just a cheap sell-out nowadays. You can hear it on tour too: no risks, all FM-songs sound the same as always, the energylevel is that of a 60-year old fart. Bye Bye Buckingham.

You're kidding, right? I just want to make sure before I go ballistic on you for not only telling me what I should or shouldn't like, but also that I also can't make decisions for myself.

Gerald's being sarcastic, Mark.

Myself, I'm not crazy about this album. I've never been a big fan of the live versions of "Big Love" and "Go Insane," and this is basically an entire album full of songs in that style. There are definite standouts, don't get me wrong... but, overall, it's not my thing.

Still, I can't fault Lindsey for pursuing the style that interests him right now. He recorded and released this album on his terms, and that's to be commended.

I'm bummed that I don't like it more, but hopefully he'll win me back with next year's "electric" album.

I thought he might be, but I couldn't tell.

I think this is a brilliant album, maybe even my favorite of his. And I have no problem with people not liking it...we all have different tastes. I mean, I can't stand 90% of the groups the people on this board love to go on and on about (Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, etc.). Where I get pissed is when people tell me what I should and shouldn't like.

I'm perfectly capable of thinking for myself and making up my own mind, and I don't appreciate other people second-guessing my preferences.

That's what ticks me off. I have no problem with somebody not liking something. But don't sit up there and tell me I can't like it, and I'm "not a true fan" if I do.
You hit that right on the head.

Unhappy

With the exception of MarcoLas and his juvenile comments (along with a very stupid signature), everyone on this board seems to have mature rationale on why they like or dislike LB's latest work. Many valid points have been made and quite honestly my view has been changed a bit towards the new cd. LB certainly has earned the opportunity to put out whatever he personally enjoys and when it comes down to it I guess that is all that really matters.

Unfortunately, the price that we pay as fans is that we are likely to never hear the much anticipated electric "rocking" cd that LB claims is coming out next year. The lack of sales for UTS probably will likely turn that project into the next "Gift of Screws". If we are lucky a few songs may make it on the next Mac cd. Record studios are all about sales and my educated guess is that Reprise is NOT pressuring LB to hurry up and finish his second cd in 12 months so they can hurriedly release it to the public. That was the whole point of my message....after 14 years of false release dates and hopes for a kick##@ cd, UTS was IMO a bit of a letdown. It's a decent cd and will likely stand the test of time, however due to it's general lack of sales appeal you can likely forget about another solo release next year.

Personally, I think if the record company was so concerned with shifting a ton of UTS cd's, they would have started the promotion for this cd months before it's actual release, upping his visibility and putting him back into the the minds of the buying public. AND... If they were all that concerned... they would have forced him to mix the cd with the rocking tracks that he said are finished and not given him the option. For all we know, he has paid for the everything out of his own pocket to produce this and to get it released... leaving the record company only responsible for distributing it... The more the record company puts out in promotion, the more the cd needs to sell to repay the label for those costs... Obviously they didn't expect much from sales, otherwise you would have seen a bigger push behind it.

I love the cd... I think it's a departure from his norm, but it's a welcome departure for me... It gets better with each listen.

I see you're far more mature than him.

You're delusional enough to think people expected him to sell anything?

Here's what happened to Lindsey:

He became the most creative, adventurous, interesting member of Fleetwood Mac. And he still is today.

This has been an interesting thread.

Personally, I think this new CD is what LB wanted to do and while, like anyone regarding their work, he would have liked it to be a huge success, the reality is it was not. I think that speaks to LB not really being that commercially viable on his own. That relative non-viability in no way, however, speaks to his musical talent, which is immense.
