Facebook Etiquette- Introducing Yourself To Someone
Just had a quick question to get an opinion from fellow Ledgies.
There is this girl I've seen around campus a couple of times this semester. Her page randomly was recommended on my FB (you know how FB recommends people), because we have 42 friends in common. I was wondering if it would be polite or not to introduce myself to her via FB- a lot of our mutual friends are choir people I went to high school with and stuff, so would it really be that terribly random? What do you all think? Hope everyone has a great day!! Ethan

I'd say go for it!
I've never made a friend directly through facebook, but I have through Flickr, and I suppose that's even more random than FB because I'd never met her and we had no friends in common. She's now one of my best friends |

The one potentially pseudo awkward thing may be what to say when/if I run into her in person. I sometimes have this feeling after sending someone a message, e-mail or something- but I need to get over that!

I thought I'd get the awkward thing with my friend but as soon as we saw eachother, it was like we'd known eachother all our lives Ooh, how sappy does that sound
You'll be fine! You should add her and drop a Hi on her wall, tell her you recognised her having seen her around then ask if she goes to Choir |

ethan, you referenced you're not sure how to preface...how about the truth. You noticed the FB recommend, the mutual friends, and that you recognize her from HS.

But to just add her without saying anything would just look... creepy? If someone I kinda recognise adds me, then says nothing, I go to their wall and ask who they are, either that or delete them. Call me cautious, but if he was adding me I'd want an introduction

I don't know this girl from high school or anything... I had seen her around campus a couple of times, and then FB recommended her and come to find out we have.. what is it, 45 friends in common or something. I'll probably add her and just leave her a message as I'm not too fond of writing on peoples' walls. I'll just say that FB recommended her and that "she looked familiar- since we have a lot of choir friends in common, had she sung at All-State" or something along those lines. She doesn't REALLY look familiar, but it's a decent basis to start off with, and she doesn't have to know that. She'll probably say no about the choir thing, but then we just go from there. Sound like a plan?

Now Carrie, I was just asking a simple question- not ranting and raving about anything.

Well it's not so much that, as seeing how she knows all of my friends.
