Default Best and worst PVK track?

In these times of PVK reissues, I thought it would be interesting to get people's
opinions on those tracks (In the skies through to Kolors etc.)

My favorite track would be the orchestral version of "The apostle". On par with greeny's
F.mac material imho. Runners up from In the skies would be the poignant "a fool no more"
and the ghostly Tribal dance. Otherwise, the punchy "Shining star" (White sky), Loser two times (Little dreamer), Gotta see her tonight and Last train to san antone (Watcha gonna do).

The worst track i think is Funky jam. Barely 20 seconds of Greeny on it from what i can hear. But in terms of songwriting, how about Mike's very lame Bizzy Lizzy (Whatcha gonna do). Embarrassing . Or Black woman... : "you're black and I'm white..."

I think the albums are so different.. so the only way for me to do it, is this:

BEST SONGS:

From "In The Skies":
The whole album + single version of The Apostle

From "Little Dreamer":
Loser Two Times
Crying Won't Bring You Back
Little Dreamer

Woman Don't (single)

From "Whatcha Gonna Do?"
Bullet In The Sky
Last Train To San Antone
Lost My Love

From "White Sky":
Time For Me To Go
Shining Star
Falling Apart
Just Another Guy

From "Kolors":
What Am I Doing Here
Big Boy Now

From "Legend":
Rubbing My Eyes
Carry My Love

WORST SONGS:
Bad Bad Feeling (annoying slide guitar overdubbing!!)
Funky Jam
You Won't See Me Anymore
Bandit (Kolors version)
Long Way From Home
... and I'm not that fond of Indian Lover and Momma Don'tcha Cry either!

dino, davsen, good idea for a thread. and these are great choices.

my alltime favorite peter green riff/song (including his work with fmac) is 'funky chunk' from 'in the skies'. don't ask me why....there is no accounting for taste.

i know what you mean about bizzy lizzy d., it is kind of embarassing. but however goofy it seems, i love it. to hear pete say 'she runs a boutique and calls me a freak.... i wouldn't have it any other way' is a favorite moment from the album....amusing.

'loser two times' and the cover of albert king's 'born under a bad sign' are my faves from 'little dreamer'

'gotta see her tonight' and 'hot tomato' are my favorites from 'whatcha gonna do'.

for bad, for me, all of kolors except for 'what am i doing here'- i love the vocal to that.

i've got to get the reissues. i don't have legend, or any of the original non-lp cuts including the single version of apostle.

Good thread!

Best: The Apostle, I guess - pretty hard to beat. I also love Seven Stars and Proud Pinto. Other faves include Just Another Guy, Bandit and Long Way From Home (dansven doesn't like it - just shows we're all different!!)

Worst: I never liked The Clown, or Carry My Love. Black Woman is not one of my favourites, nor Big Boy Now.

Very interesting to see other people's opinions!

Interesting yes, to hear people's opinions!
A problem for me is that some songs which I don't like have good
guitar playing...Don't like The Clown either, but there's some
tasty guitar licks at the end. I have to stick up for Big Boy now,
I love that song, although it would have been better without overdubs.
Weird to hear peter play kind of reggae music, but maybe he was into
that in the early 80's, if you look at some of those photographs it seems like it...Maybe Jeff Whittaker's influence?

d- yeah the guitar on the clown is nice. also on the positive, pete enunciates much better and his voice is higher in the mix on the clown than on the 'little dreamer' and whatcha gonna do sessions?. on the clown, to me he sounds more like the guy who sang 'man of the world' than the guy who sang 'last train to san antone'.

know what you are saying about good guitar work on bad songs. i have this problem with the nigel watson written/sung material on sg cds. for example on destiny road 'indians', which i don't much like as a song, and i didn't buy the cd to listen to nigel sing ok, has a great pg solo. the live version from soho sessions (?) also a great pg solo and that terrific ending figure by pete. the winwood cover, 'there's a river' or whatever it is called, on destiny road has the greatest pete nigel guitar exchange ever at the end. so, i hear you dino... it's tempting is to hit the skip button. but don't do that! you may miss something good.

another reggae-like pvk song is 'give me back my freedom'. call me the clown, but i love that one too. has more appropriate lyrics for the pvk era, '... and make me someone i don't want to be. give me back my freedom...'
