All My Sorrows are in Tahoe
I am doing a fuller write up of the show, but just wanted to say that Lindsey closed with All My Sorrows.
He also played about 2 minutes of DOR for a lady in the front row, but he didn't sing it. He just did it on guitar. You know, when FM got that new guitarist, I was on the fence. Slowly but surely, he's beginning to grow on me. I think I may learn to like him yet. Michele Last edited by michelej1; 09-13-2008 at 12:51 AM.. |

He probably will. He, Neale and Brett didn't learn that harmony for just one night. They were like the Beach Boys!

OMG. I love that song.
Anything else you'd like to highlight before your write-up? I would die if he played something like, oh, You Do Or You Don't/Countdown/Surrender the Rain/Wrong live. But you know. Not being selective or anything.

Don't forget that last tour LB pulled out a few rare cuts and surprised everyone, like playing "Bwana" in Cincy! I think by the time the tour is over he will have pulled a couple more wonderful gems from his catalog. Here's hoping! Oh...and they sounded like the Beach Boys? Really? Maybe LB will pull off doing "Good Vibrations" or maybe "Heroes & Villans" live. Ya never know, it could happen!

[Article discusses All My Sorrows]
http://blogs.kcrw.com/musicnews/2013...+Music+Blog%29 Of Montreal Covers The Chordettes Live on KCRW Posted November 14, 2013 by Collin When Of Montreal returned to KCRW, it was a pretty quiet Veteran’s Day around the studios. The kids from Athens provided us with a lighthearted set that was fun and bouncy without being grandiose. You could tell frontman Kevin Barnes was having fun, often times joking on mic and generally keeping it easy going. At the very end of the set, Barnes introduced the last song as a cover of The Chordettes, although he wasn’t too sure. In my hasty research to mark it down for this blog, I realized that the song “All My Sorrows” is one of those rare songs. Rare because there’s a pretty robust list of artists who have covered this song –some in different titles, others taking some liberties with the verses–but rare because the debate over to whom it should be attributed to. The answer is not very clear. Glenn Yarbrough gets credit sometimes for writing it. The Searchers and Kingston Trio get credit for popularizing it (even then Lindsey Buckingham gets a lot of the credit as well) but, to me, the real story is how a relatively obscure song makes its way through the passage of time with no real owner or connection. What lives on through all the versions and artists is the essence of a very sad song masked behind that signature 50′s pop glow. This time around, Of Montreal were able to strip away the veneer and get to the pain behind the bubble gum. Perhaps setting it up for yet another decade down the road of new interpretations. |
