This is a hard one.
Not sure if there's any reason to compare.
Tango In The Night features Stevie Nicks's worst batch of songs and
her most horrible/weakest vocals of her career (aside from her parts on
Little Lies).
But the album was a high point for Christine McVie and broke new ground
for Buckingham. Overall, I don't think it stands up over time due to
the heavy 80's production/sound.

Mirage is a better album - more cohesive and with stronger songs, timeless
harmonies and gorgeous vocals from Stevie Nicks.

Mirage 10, Tango 2

As much as I like listening to both albums, when I pit the songs next to each other in this way I realize Mirage has a lot more substance than Tango. Almost every song on Tango is catchy, quirky, and calculated; whereas the songs on Mirage have genuine charm and character.

Only Little Lies seems to hold up and trump many (but not all) of the Mirage tunes.

As I said above, the demo version of "Everywhere" is fantastic; the studio version seems almost sickeningly sweet.

But then tthe Rumours-era demo for That's Alright trumps the album version, too.

The live version of Eyes of the World would probably trump When I See You Again for me ... but EOTW is almost a different song live these days to what was recorded in studio in the 80's. And I think you can only fairly compare a live song with another live song, and a studio song with another studio song. I like Tango in the Night but Gypsy is special to me being the song that really made me fall in love with the Mac. My favourite version of Gypsy is the Live in Boston 2003 performance, Stevie's age at the time and the look in her eyes really lends itself to the nostalgia in the lyrics like she's looking back on her turbulent past, all her traipsing around the globe. Lindsey nailed the guitar solo that night naturally and his guttural cries of "Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice" add a lot to the song. I like how Stevie used to introduce the song with "This is for all the gypsies out there"... just like how Rhiannon in 2013 is missing "This is a song about an old Welsh witch".

Finally, Family Man is just god-awful. Dare I say it ...even worse than Welcome to the Room...Sara.
