Default How are things going on the tour of Great Britain?

Dear Folks,
has anyone been to any of these shows yet?

Any reports, or any other tidbits?

Yes - please come forward you lucky people. Don't hesitate to share detailed accounts of the event

As far as I know there has only been one concert in Douglas, Isle of Man on the 13th, but tomorrow there is another one, and then anothere one, and then another one...

Question

Hi folks, I was at the Buxton performance of PG & Friends on the 18th, I'll try and give a summary of the night.

Ok, so I'll have to be really honest, I thought it was both good and bad...

Firstly Jet Martin Celmins was great - he's without doubt a very accomplished guitarist, and his one-man-band managed to sound big and very professional

Which unfortunately was the opposite to PG & Friends...- a lot of the time they just didn't sound big or very professional....I'd best run for cover now... !

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, (I'll mention the good points later ) but maybe after seeing all the great PG & Friends Youtube clips which I really enjoyed I was expecting too much, or perhaps it was just a below par night

Ok so it was only the second night into the tour, but I still didn't expect the band overall to appear quite so nervous and disorganised, and the worst part for me was the poor sound - both PG and MD's guitars sounded rather lifeless all night, with no sustain or crispness and little reverb. The double bass and drums were also somehow lost in the mix, although the vocals, sax and keyboards sounded fine!

PG himself seemed discontent with his guitar tone (which sadly took some of the shine off his playing ) and while Mike Dodd took a long time to introduce the band members, PG took the opportunity to get up and go tweak something on his amp!

Ok so thats enough negatives, and despite all the above there was still plenty to smile about I thought the set list itself was a nice mix (changed only slightly from last year I think), the on-stage joking and humour was good fun, and despite his dull guitar tone PG still looked to be enjoying himself quite often!

So overall, for me, mixed feelings really - it was a case of all the right ingredients but the actual cooking itself needed some fine-tuning...!

Default Buxton Youtube clip

Thanks a lot JohnsonP, for your detailed and personal review! Let's hope they get the technical things fixed soon.

I found what must be the first clip on Youtube from this occation. It is a very bad recording, but still: it is there!
