Default Mick's book

I think the best is Mick's book (My life and adventures in Fleetwood Mac).

The book is full of emotion, and though some people think that not all episodes are described with the exact truth, you get caught by all the stories of the band along the time.

Maybe the most controversial episode is about the day Lindsey left the band, and perhaps we will never know how it exactly happened. But beyond that, I do think the book is pretty reliable.

The book is written circa 1992. So if you want recent episodes, look for Bob Brunning's book. It was written circa 1997.

They're all of varying levels of mediocrity, but certainly Mick's book (an autobiography of sorts) & Sam Emerson's book (the only authorized bio) are two of the best. The Steve Clarke/Roy Carr book "Rumours 'n' Fax" is worth reading, too, as are all the articles in the Blue Letter Archives.

The others (by Charlie Walters, Ed Wincentsen, Leah Furman, Peter Lewry et al.) are embarrassments, & Bob Brunning's books are at least well-written.

But, there are MANY blatantly wrong "fax". Many miscaptioned photos (one really obvious one was a photo of Mick & Jeremy Spencer...they identified Jeremy as Jenny Fleetwood...c'mon, can't tell the difference between Jeremy & Jenny? Get outta the book biz!) the color photos were printed backwards in every copy I've seen (I thought that maybe they'd correct the errors in subsequent publishings, but, no.) Not much annoys me more than backwards photos...especially ones that have John & Lindsey playing left handed...

Of the ones that are still relatively easy to find (and inexpensively so), I'd recommend Mick's book, first and foremost. It might not be wholly accurate, but at least it's an insider's account.
Bob Brunning's book is also pretty good, and is interesting because of his status as a former Mac member & insider.

The Leah Furman book isn't awful, though it's really nothing more than a summation of the information and interviews that can be found here on the Blue Letter Archives. But if you're looking for some particular piece of information, and you're not near a computer, it can come in handy.

The 'Authorized History' book that David mentioned (which was actually written by Samuel Graham, not Sam Emerson ), is great, but it's outdated by 26 years, and can be pretty hard to track down.

Just to update you about Bob Brunning's book, an updated edition was released in January 2004, the book is now re-titled 'Rumours and Lies' and is available at Amazon.co.uk

Don't diss the last chapter.... Gypsy Rhiannon (Pip) and myself did the research! We GAVE him the right stuff, just hope he wrote it down correctly!
