Right. And he's in the music business and friends with some of her friends. What in the world.

i don't know. i'm from Europe (but yeah not in the music business), and while i was very familiar with FM name (and the music from previous FM incarnations), i've never heard of Stevie Nicks before moving to the US.

He could have been familiar with her name or band, but not known what she looked like.

Or been so wrapped up in his own life that he didn't have time to listen to other music.

It's easier not to know who she is today than it was back then.

I may have heard their music and have heard their names, but I didn't know what any of them looked like until 1979. BUT I did know the names and faces of my peers, people that I was in school with. I think if I was Dave Stewart I would have known a little more about people who were making the music charts and magazine covers at the same time as I was.

i know what you are saying about peers but i guess it's a more co-localized community... when was this encounter happening? 80s some time? Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart / Eurythmics were huge and unavoidable in Europe at the time. i've noticed when Stewart first starting working on SN's album some people here had no clue who he was which was completely shocking to me, and so i understand they were never as huge here. guess the situation was reversed with SN - huge here and nobody knew who she was over there. did she know who Dave Stewart was at the time of that encounter? so, maybe it goes both ways and both were stunned to be unknown to the other?

They were very big here as well. And their music videos got a lot of airplay. Although you might not have known Dave's name because he was in the background, but his face was pretty recognizable. Annie was the prominent one.

As far as people not knowing him today, not knowing people NOW is different than not knowing them in their heyday. With the live musical coming up, I was talking about Grease at work with people who are in their twenties and they don't know who Olivia Newton John is. Well, I can understand that today for sure. But in 1980 I would have found it hard to believe that let's say a popular actor or singer wouldn't have known who Olivia Newton John is.

Also, there are a lot of people that I knew about in the past that I've forgotten about today. I knew who the Thompson Twins were once. I don't have a clue today. So, I can understand someone totally not knowing who Stevie is now, young or old. I just can't understand a peer in their heyday not knowing them then.

you need to really care who celebrities are

My husband's cousin is a a famous actor he has no clue to half the actors out there , he doesn't care , my husband's family are in the entertainment industry, as he said to me you hear names but you have no idea who they are , a good friend told me this morning he had a dinner meeting with a huge reality star who always in the news who is going to be a spokes person for his company I have no idea who she is .

I really comes down to spending time following who's in who's hot who's hip who's now and a lot of people don't care

and i wouldn't be able to pick Bruce Springsteen out of a line up

Just because he didn't know who she was when he saw her doesn't mean he didn't know of her. Might not have recognized her or known what she looked like, but I'm sure he would have her of her. I've seen people I know a few years later and not known who they were.

I know about a music journalist who met her at a party in 1977. He'd asked a 'very pretty girl' for a dance and a friend informed him afterwards that it was Stevie Nicks of Fleeteood Mac and he was 'stunned'. He went back to try and find her but she had left...

He definitely knew who FM was. He was already scheduled to interview Stevie towards the end of his US trip and was looking forward to it as a 'big exclusive'.

Maybe she is a bit different in person because she is probably smaller than people expect and she doesn't always have all that stagecraft.

When he went to interview her I suppose a few weeks later she asked him 'Don't I know you from somewhere?' lol.

Question Huh?

Like I just read this excerpt on StevieNicksInfo - Facebook. Am I behind the times or what? I had no idea that she slept with Dave Stewart. Yeah & she swears she never slept with Tom Petty, but I really wonder now. Was Dave still with Annie @ the time?
