Blandness will always be a problem with an entire album of Christine McVie songs. She needs Fleetwood Mac as much as they need her.

She has great instincts for getting a good hook into her song, and her craftsmanship is pro—she also has a voice that sounds so good on record that you fall in love with it—but she doesn't orchestrate her tracks with much flavor. That's what makes the solo albums feel like one long song with occasional pauses for key or tempo changes. She needs someone else to lay out the instrumentation to generate more fireworks. She should do what Stevie does: hire the orchestrator.

It's a just one more frustrating mistep, when the band plays it too safe, resorting to a standard set, and rarely straying outside of it. "So Excited" would have been a inspired selection on the first tour which introduced Billy and Rick. Instead we got Stand Back, a song that should never have become a staple a Fleetwood Mac show.

Also, why did they do "Don't Let Me Down Again" which wasn't really even a Fleetwood Mac song when "It Ain't Over" would have been the way more obvious choice. It was a Billy original that featured Mick and Christine, and it was on message (i.e. the band wasn't over).

Given that Billy and Rick were somewhat constricted in what they could bring to the table, I thought Don't Let Me Down Again was great choice. I certainly consider it as a Fleetwood Mac song. Aside from its origins, they started performing the song in 1975, and it appears on their 1980 LIVE album.

It Ain't Over is an inspired choice! It could have been the name of their tour! Since they lost Lindsey, and rebounded with Billy and Rick, The It Ain't OverTour would have been very clever. They aren't that clever.
