Kolors 1984
Last week I receieved in the mail from a friend, Karl-Heinz, a 1984 Kolors live concert recordrd somewhere in Germany. I had only heard Katmandu and the Kolors album before this and was not expecting much. I was blown away by the bands tight percusssion and bass. The band cooked and played funk as well as anything out there. Peter was apparently under the weather but played well. They did funk versions of White Sky, Proud Pinto and stuff from the PVK era but with much more kick than the original recordings. I wish I could have seen this incarnation of the Peter Green train but it was a good one. If only he was his 60s self it would have gone into the stratosphere. As it was it backed him up really well and I would think that the folks got their money's worth for the ticket. I would guess that it was this band that went to Isreal during the Festival that wasn't

They were not bad musicians - people like Godfrey McLean and Mick Weaver played in the band from time to time. Most of them were Africans living in London. Be aware that Alfred "Kari" Bannerman plays most of the solos in that concert, though. Or, half of them, anyway. |

which is equally good. As for the Rockpalast TV show there's a few funny moments when the band totally loose it and blow the chord changes, notably in Green Manalishi, and Green is very amused. A bit like that TV clip of "Oh well" from 1969 where Mick fails to come in with the cow bell... |

Thanks for the info, Vinnie!
I would have thought that the later Kolors concerts (from 1984) were not any good, but I actually tend to enjoy these shows more than the earlier concerts from "Peter's PVK era". |

I have a video of Kolors from the Rockpalast shows that I burned for Mick back in 1990 or so. It's pretty worn, so I don't watch it much anymore. You're really not missing anything. I found the video to be sad, if not altogether heartbreaking. NOTHING like his Mac or Splinter Group days. But, the set I have isn't complete by the list posted.
Black Magic Woman ??? (Lead vocal NOT Peter) Loser Two Times In The Skies ??? (Lead vocal NOT Peter) Cryin' Won't Bring You Back The Green Manalishi Albatros

Yes, I recieved this in a trade back in late 05'...it's mentioned in a thread I started back then. A very good/excellent audience recording. I did trade with a few other ledgies...so maybe it got around. Here's the thread I started in Dec. 05 http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=24556

he had very pleasant memories. The Rockpalast listing for the '82 show is for the complete set - only the songs Steve mentioned were broadcast. I don't think it's terrible. Peter doesn't look very healthy, I'll admit that.. But it's nice to hear Peter go reggae! |
