Yup. I think it's a strong song. It doesn't sound like a "hit" single, but it's a nicely sung and produced song.

I have to think about it. But like Iris DeMent’s How Long, I admit to being moved and raised goose flesh.

So I think the applicability of the “Dream” to the Hamptons is rather ludicrous (“Dont forget what we were fighting for!”). The context of that directive in the Hampton’s is as out of place as the applicability of it to today.

But is there another example of Stevie PRaYING in song? Wow. I am moved I can’t help it.

ETA: is that mick?

I think it's her worst song to date. I couldn't even finish it.

I usually always love her demos more than the released version so I listened to the acoustic version first. After 4:52 seconds I was bored and wanted it to end. The next two minutes I listened to the rest but it felt too long. Then I watched the official video and almost from the get go some tears started to flow. I know it sounds corny and some of you will eye roll but it made me cry because it's a great song. And the picture flashbacks invoke photo memories seen long ago. I enjoyed her vocal and the music very much. It's not a song that will have me dancing around the house because it's too serious a subject for that. It's not a song I want to listen to a lot because it is so serious. But I will listen to it and I do like it.
I hear musical elements of Trouble in Shangri La mixed in with the vocal elements of Bombay Sapphires within this song.

My view is this. I really like the production a lot. It saves the song. If you can really call it a song. It's a just poem she clumsily turned into a song with the help of another writer/producer. Why she got it in her head that the rambling poem is great is beyond me. Anyone could of written it. Why does she still think that everything she writes is great? She loves herself too much.

The song is in the vein of Illume, Mabel Norman, You Can't Fix This and a few others. I loved the production on those songs but the bad lyrics really bother me soo much that I rarely listen to them. The lyrics don't bother me as much on this song because she states at the beginning of the song that this is just a dream, so I guess it doesn't have to make as much sense. I also like the little chorus and how the song ends. Still the song is wayyyyyy tooo long and it's clumsily written, like almost all of her later stuff. (this song was co-written but we saw the original poem so he didn't do much) It's also boring. But ok, I'm going to give this song a thumbs up because I think it makes more sense than most, the production is great and surprisingly, her voice doesn’t sound that bad. I'll also give her the benefit of the doubt because of her age.

Now for the video. It sucks. I feel like she is trying to pander to a group of people and at the end when she tells us to VOTE, I just rolled my eyes. It's a blatant attempt at trying to be relevant and it looks pretty cheap.

P.S. Maybe I'm being too hard on her. Anyone who writes a political song and comes out with a political video is trying to be relevant I guess. It is self serving though.

Also, this doesn't speak very well for a new album. I mean she is just handing over poems to producers and working with them to turn her poems into songs. They can't work miracles. Production won't save all her ramblings. I thought 24Karat Gold and In Your Dreams were comebacks for her because actually really worked on the songs.

When I listened to the preview yesterday, I wasn't impressed with her voice or the song. I listened to both this morning and just watched the video. This song works with the video. It reminds me of Mabel Norman, but Mabel had better music. I think when the songs kicks in 1/3 way through it works better. The lyrics in the beginning are pretty clumsy. "I fell into the dress" I really don't like that lyric. But as a whole, I'm pretty proud of her. She is stating a very powerful message and it works. I'm still mad at her for Lindsey though.

The song works better paired with the video. I admit I was moved, and I actually appreciate her making more of a political statement. She's a powerful voice...use it.

I must say that, as a non native English speaker, normally when I listen to a song in English I have this "superpower" of not noticing what the lyrics say at all, unless I pay special attention.
Having now seen the video and paid attention to the lyrics, I must say that I appreciate Stevie's intention (I am very interested in USA politics) and hope the same as she, that you all go to vote and in a certain way
As a song, to me it would fall into, to say politely, my least favorite of Stevie. Marbel Normand, Illume, and this one... wtf with singing these lazy 3 note melodies that never end? Lindsey, do something!
Well, as I read someone say, I won't consider this a "song" but rather a sort of poem or statement or alike...

I also think that the production and the way she sounds are good. Sometimes, with TISL atmosphere, which to me is very positive (I loved TISL).
So I think it's a pity that, with this production, this message intention, as a song it was this weak.

the words are absurd.

Do we know who wrote the music? Is this a Dave collaboration?

It sounds way too much like Mabel Normand in terms of melody and her voice.

She needs an editor. Cringey.

Hate the music and production. It sounds like every top 40 pop song that's been released over the last 5 years and that doesn't suit Stevie at all, in my opinion.

The lyrics are okay. Some have called it a rambling mess but I like that Mabel Normand-esque style from her. I can't say I LIKE this song. It's just very middle of the road but I'm glad to see her actually creating something. Here's to hoping this really does lead to a new album.
