Default New generations...

After reading the thread about Jessica's answer, I was wondering if she really enjoyed singing at SYW, or if she considered being a signer. Well I just checked again and Lori answered addtional questions, and yes, she said Jessica may be a singer in the future. I was wondering if it was more Stevie's idea that Jessica's own desire. She appeared in the Street Angel book, she appeared in SYW... I wondered whose idea was. Would be Jessica a star? Who knows.

Anyway, this thread point is.. how many SUCCESFUL new generations we have? And FAILURES? (just music, rock, not movies). List all you remember, like...

Julian Lennon. A good beginning, but maybe he was bad managed and he eclipsed fast. Besides, I think his main problem was being John's son. His first songs were not masterpieces but sounded cool. No less, no more.

Chloe Lattanzi. If you don't know her, she's Olivia NJ's daughter. I saw in E! that she's becoming a good pianist and songwriter, but to this day I have not heard anything from her.

Carnie and Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips. Well, I think Wilson Phillps is a succesful group. Though naming it with their parents lastname maybe made things "easier", they brought cool songs anyway.

I doubt Stevie would push her into anything she didn't want to do --especially being a musician, considering Stevie knows that world and has seen the ups and downs of it all herself. In Camden, Jessi was chatting with fans and said something about learning to play guitar, and wanting to record an album. Also in the In Style article that came out a couple years ago, I think Stevie mentioned Jessi twirling around the kitchen impersonating her; so I would say it sounds like something that's coming from Jessi, more than from Stevie or anyone else.

Yeah, but that was just a picture accompanying a dedication... I wouldn't call it a foray into the music business.

There are a good number that have been successful on their own terms. Norah Jones (Ravi Shankar's daughter) and Natalie Cole come to mind. Whitney Houston is more famous than her aunt Dionne Warwick ever was. I can see how constantly being placed in the shadow of a legendary relative would be hard, but some people have managed to overcome it.

Zak Starkey, son of Ringo, is in The Who. He's quite a good drummer. Sounds just like Keith Moon

Dhani Harrison, son of George, helped produce his father's posthumous album "Brainwashed".

Sean Lennon, son of John, did at least one solo album. And of course, there's Julian Lennon.

Our current president now sits in the oval office, where his father was. And he got a second term.

In the Q and A, John mentioned Molly is active in drama in school, and "she is threatening to make it a career". We might want to watch out for her in the years ahead.

That band Nelson, the twin guys with the long blonde hair that had a hit in the 80s, and their sister Tracy Nelson, kids of Ricky Nelson, I believe. Tracy's done pretty well as an actress but I don't know about those other 2.

LOL! They were just on I Love the 90's Part Deux making fun of themselves. Didn't really say what they're up to now, though.

Some more successful new generations:

Jake Scott (Ridley's son): great video director
Samira Makhmalbaf, a winner prize director as her father, Mohsen Makhmalbaf
Charlotte Gainsbourg (daughter of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg): amazing actress
Guillaume Depardieu (Gerard's son): very good actor who unfortunately loves excesses
Sofia Coppola: one of the best young directors around IMO.
Nick Cassavetes (son of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands): not as talented as his father (obviously), but a quite skilled director
Mark Wexler (Haskell Wexler's son): a documentary director who's getting better and better
Mira Sorvino: interesting actress... too tall to find great parts?
Emma Thompson (Phillida Law's daughter): magnificent when she wants to
David and Thomas Newman, composers as their father Alfred. Thomas is an Oscar nominee this year.
