Default The stumble

Just saw the veriosn of the stumble from the concert, WOW!!!! Makes me very happy to see that he still the master, lovely stuff. I think it gives the hard road version something to think about, loved it.

THanks for that. I could download everything except Long Grey Mare which doesn't work for me for some reason.

WAY better than the early Splinter Group concerts.

Thank you very much, Wouter!!

I am having trouble with 3 songs: Dance On, Guess I'm A Fool and Long Grey Mare.
The rest is very good stuff .. really promising, I think. Those first Splinter Group gigs weren't that tight, but soon they became a very good band. I really admire Mike for letting Peter do all the solos! Hope that it will continue that way.

By the way, "Chicken Window" is Bob Dylan's "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You".

Thanks again, Wouter!

Yes, thanks Wouter!

The impression I had from Splinter Group is that Nigel Watson treated Green like an invalid. He did all the heavy lifting. That left the impression on me that PG didn't have his solo chops anymore. Even with Albatross, Watson took control. So to see, and hear Green retake his role as the main guitarist is a great sight to behold. "The Stumble" was one of the the only tunes Watson let Green perform in full, probably because no one can play it quite like him. BTW I have Long Grey Mare, but not Dance On.

That makes Nige sound proper sinister, iīm not sure that was case. I didīt really follow the splinter group that much because i didnt like nigel much performance wise. However i was very appreciative that he had managed to coax peter out of retirement and happy to know that he was playing again. I donīt think it was a sinister as that with nige in my opnion (well at least in the beginning)i feel like peter now wants to stand more on his own feet a bit more thats all, and nigel is surplus to requirements.
I noticed watching the vesion of the stumble from the hamster jam gig, a bit of facial blues snarl on Greenys face as he wrestled with his strat bending it to his will. Some proper nimbel finger work going down. Also the playing with the house band for that tv show is an excellent sign of a musician feeling more confident with his ability. This is all very promising, i will try not to get too excited .

Angry Me and my big mouth

Well, having seen the two tracks on youtube, and having listened to my recordings, I have to say sorry for being so critical in my review. I don't know what actually made me feel so bad about the show when I was there. I wish I could have experienced it live the way I experience it now. My criticisms were not just. I do think it was OK now. (Same goes for the missus, she had the same feelings, both during the show as afterwards).

As for the mediafire download problems, I don't know what causes it. The fact that Sharksfan had no problems and that people who do have problems have this with different tracks makes me feel that it's not my (own) fault (baby).
I suggest trying again different days, maybe there's too many downloading at the same time????? If troubles persist, let me know, we'll have to find another solution.

I use firefox and could not download Rainy Night.... everything else downloaded OK. So I tried it with Microsoft IE7 and that worked OK... strange...

Wouter, if Greeny plays in the UK and you can make it to that gig... I will find you, and buy you all the beers for the night (and your missus). Thanks a million.

As a footnote, what I have seen and heard of these new gigs, the fun seems to have come back into his playing. With the Splinter Group, it was always serious. Now I watch the enthusiasm of Mike Dodd (and I know that Geriant Watkins likes to enjoy his music) and I see Peter really beginning to have some fun up there..... this is the best since 1970.

Yes! I finally got all the tracks!

Hahahah, so fun to hear Long Grey Mare!
I love that he digs out those old "non-hits".
Leaving Town Blues at the Orkney, Long Grey Mare now.
I think Looking For Somebody and Showbiz Blues would have fitted his voice these days.

Anyway, the show was great! I think they've picked good songs for their setlist.

Some feel that in the last years of the group Nigel was taking advantage of Peter. I believe there was a legal case over this. Back in 1996 I think Nigel's intentions were genuine since they had been friends for many years. I don't know how, or what happened, but it was certainly ugly at the end.

Its sad that an obviously good friendship has been compromised in someway. Best of luck to Nige for his future and Greeny is looking great judging by the new video clips of the recent concert.
