Default Ken Caillat buys the Record Plant

Per his FB page, Ken has apparently acquired the Record Plant.

I saw his post, but didn't realize that meant that he bought it! Probably not a good business venture in this day and age...

I was thinking same thing, unless there's a niche in there some where.

There are so many GOOD home recording studios now, that you're either doing TOP END recording, or putting out independent releases from the small places.

Point - "I" have a 24 track studio. Not a big deal these days...

Who knows, maybe he's going to make it top of the line(again)? That would be cool. Anyone know his net worth? The Googles says anywhere between 1-5 million. I'd imagine dropping a couple mil in this project might be nothing....

if, with all these years of royalties from the FM, Rumours, and Tusk albums he's only got a net worth of 1-5 million, I'd not bet on him being someone good at managing or investing money at all.

Ken did not have a hand in the 1975 album . His royalties from Rumours alone though should be in the 8 figures by now .

And as far as his value as a producer, I have a friend in Nashville who produced several platinum albums in the 90's.

New artists don't want old ideas/thought processes in current production. I was shocked when he told me that he he could barely land a project these days(and no, they're set financially, and have a beautiful house way up in the hills). So for Ken having a hit album 45 years ago, it doesn't mean much now(at least to newer current artists).

ah, you're right he started with Rumours. My bad.

Yeah artists today likely don't want his help in production. He was producing his daughter but after that first hit she had I haven't been aware of anything she did afterwards with him.

But did he buy the studio thinking that the magic of who and what had been recorded there would have some sort of appeal to younger artists perhaps??

I'd think Lindsey would be more in demand than Ken(no offense to Ken - just the dating of their work).

He probably hopes that he can bring it back to what it was in the day. Beautiful dream, except there are no "endless budgets" these days. I do wish him well in it.
