Has anyone mentioned "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" by Bill Withers? It's probably another title I got wrong!

Anyway, add that to the list of sad songs.

mother, may I please resurrect this old ass thread to add:

Too Much of a Good Thing by unknown artist. (EDIT: before anyone bitches at me, I'm gonna look it up.) (EDIT2: Bret Reilly)

it's on the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack (odd, I know) - but damn, it breaks my heart.

also, Everlong by Foo Fighters.

Also, you could say "Precious," because it kicks your ass so hard that it leaves a bruise.

I'll post some more later, but my favorite sad song would have to be "Lonesome Town" by Ricky Nelson. At least it is right now. Sigh.

Similar themed song:

"Thorn Tree In The Garden" - Derek & The Dominos

It's about Bobby Whitlock's puppy.

From Bobby's MySpace site:

"This song wrapped up the Layla album, many people believed that it was about a lost love, a woman...perhaps relating to Eric and Patti. It actually was about Bobby's puppy that was taken from him at The Plantation in Los Angeles, and was disposed of. The puppy was his world at that time...having just arrived in L.A. with no family Bobby got this puppy and a cat named "Peaches". There were alot of people living at the "Plantation", so he was told to get rid of the dog and cat . When he came home from delivering the cat to a home, the puppy was gone. Bobby was so torn up, rather than beat the crap out of the man, he quietly sat in his room and wrote "Thorn Tree". He played it to the man and told him that he was his "Thorn Tree in my Garden", and that everytime he heard this song that he would remember what he had done to his little dog."
