Socialism is about as close to communism as Republicanism is to fascism. Interpret that how you will.

Most governments in Europe (Germany, Britain, the Scandinavian countries, etc.) are socialist in many aspects.

If you don't really know what socialism is, though... what is your Republican ideology based on? It's important to be well-informed on what both sides of the coin are talking about and offering. You should do a little research on what modern socialism is all about. The party designations seem rather off to me, not mention just being out of place among a chart of ideologies. Parties and ideologies are different things, and the designations for both parties seem to cut pretty wide swaths that don't make much sense. I think Rudy Giuliani might disagree with the Republican area not crossing over into social liberalism at all, for one.
