WTF?

yet another demonstration of the total hypocrisy of this band.

Or maybe what is being purported as the truth on this board isn't really the truth.

How is it hypocritical? Neil is touring Europe between the first and second legs of the Fleetwood Mac North American tour.

Hmmm. . . I just asked about this on the rumours forum. And here's the answer, by golly.

How was Neil Finn able to wangle solo gigs during the Fleetwood tour, and Lindsey allegedly was not?

It's very weird to be brand new in a band and to balance your solo plate with the band's plate (like a waiter) during the year the band is on the road. Vito put out a solo album when he was in Fleetwood Mac, but the band was inactive that year. And Stevie certainly did some recording for The Other Side in early 1988, when the Shake the Cage tour broke for several months before heading to Europe.

I think there's more to this story than meets the eye!

That all depends on whose posts you read and choose to believe. I don't know the truth.

Maybe because they’re on a different continent while Fleetwood Mac is on a two month break

Neil’s album was already done when he joined the band. This is probably the only promotion he’ll be able to squeeze in without disrupting the tour in any way.

Agreed. There is no hypocrisy. Neil and his son are doing a two week tour of small venues in Europe during a break from Fleetwood Mac's North American tour. There's no conflict there.

Why is a tour "break" of a month or two inherently different from tour "breaks" of a night or two or three during a given week? A lot of you guys said that touring a secondary, lesser tour during a larger main tour was a promotional no-no. (I never understood just why that might be true, or even whether that was true.) Promotion behind a big tour like this one isn't going to abruptly stop just because the band is on a month-long hiatus. In fact, I'd think that the band NEEDED all its members during part of that hiatus to reinvigorate itself by adding new songs to the set. You may not know this, Sugar Mouse, but Fleetwood Mac actually wrote and recorded new material during its July break from the 1980 touring schedule.

There is most definitely some double standard nonsense going on with this band at this time (and historically, too).

It's not a double standard because because Neil is touring the UK while the band is touring the US; two different countries so no fan crossover.

Moreover, I'm very confident that Neil would be more than happy to work on new material with FM whenever they want.

Neil is a songwriting machine (see the documentaries for the 7 Worlds Collide projects and the Out of Silence sessions on YouTube) and he can probably write all the songs and produce a new Fleetwood Mac album in under a month. And the process would be enjoyable unlike sessions with Lindsey used to be.

That's a bold statement! You already have Neil producing the next FM album! And there would be no conflict! You really don't understand this band! Or I don't understand the magical powers of Neil Finn!!!!!!

Why not? Lindsey produced the FM albums so why wouldn't Neil produce them as he has produced or co-produced most of the albums with which he's been associated in the last twenty years. Jim Scott or Mitchell Froom would be other producer options who completely "get" how to make 80's style rock sound modern.
