Hey Baby
This song from the Madison Blues Set.... the piano in this song is extradinary... and pristine... the solo is fierce... sometimes she brings me to a nina simone place with her piano.... the dynamics are missing but it's in a perfect dynamic so there's no need to change...

I LOVE this version, because of her piano. I think it's better than the Chicken Shack single version.

No, it wasn't on either Chicken Shack studio album. It was the B-side to the "When The Train Comes Back" single and there is a live Chicken Shack BBC version on the On Air CD. The Chicken Shack versions are both very good, but the Christine Perfect Band version on the Madison Blues box set is better, in my opinion.

No, they're the same song. Maybe you're thinking of "It's OK With Me Baby". That was the first Chicken Shack single, and the first recording Christine ever made. "It's OK With Me Baby" & "Hey Baby" are 2 completely different songs. I hope I'm not confusing you.

I really like Chris' piano playing on this but I'm not that keen on the vocals.
In those days her voice sounded a bit harsh to me. Still it's improved with age. Gail |

I actually think her vocal on this song on the Madison Blues box set is pretty good. The problem vocals are those that were live. Somehow, someway her voice got dramatically better starting around 1973. I think her vocals on ITM were her best ever, even though she was around 60 when they were recorded.

I love this version of the song, too. But I actually like the Chicken Shack version of the song a bit better. It's a fine problem to have: two great versions of the same tune.
