Wow is Tusk played fast. Have not heard it played this fast in a long time. This is the fastest pace Sara, no? Love it

My Favorite Stevie vocals are 1980 to pre Wild Heart tour 1983 so this is icing on the cake for me. Much more vibrato than the 70s but not cracked and coked out raspy that started in parts of the Wild Heart tour. Good grief she's still hitting the highest of high notes on Sara.

But one funny part is Stevie's goat like sound in Tusk

This is one of my least versions of Tusk. I love that Stevie sings the lead with Lindsey but I don t like this “ fast version”

We agree again. And I feel like this Tusk is a little longer than normal. I could be wrong, just a gut feel. But, it's really intense.

These were the days of arena rock where the song on the record always had a different take live in concert. When the Dance came out technology existed to make songs sound more studio like. Besides all the extra musicians the songs slowed in concert making them more like the album version. I think for so many years this became the norm of what we heard. IMHO its why this CD is throwing me for a loop. Parts of me are like......whoa slow down a bit. But I love every minute of it. Even Hold Me is pretty fast paced compared to the Buck/Vie version. But I love this Landslide and how its like the energizer bunny compared to when it became the sing along. I think we forgot THIS was Fleetwood Mac in concert.

Her dedication made me LOL for about 20 seconds of pure cracking up. She's such a weirdo.

Tidbit:

Stevie dedicates “Landslide” to Claire (Claire Rothman was the general manager of the Forum for many years).

When Stevie played the Forum several years later on July 18, 1986, she dedicated “Beauty and the Beast” to Claire. I think Claire is still alive — 94 or 95 years old, living in Las Vegas. She is known for dropping the F-bomb quite frequently in conversation, but she was a genuine pioneer as a Jewish woman running the Forum empire and keeping the Lakers afloat (the first woman to run a major sports arena). In some ways, she was a lot like Stevie’s dad as a business leader. She served on the board at City of Hope when the Fleetwood Mac family was involved.

It totally sucks when songs become the sing-a-long. It happened to several Tom Petty songs in his last decade of touring. I really don't have any desire to see Billy Joel any longer because half of his set has become sing-a-long anthems. It distracts from the song and the performance. It becomes more about the crowd than it does the song.

I still think it would have been incredible for Fleetwood Mac to do When I See You Again instead of Landslide, somewhere between '13-'15.

She actually says so in the dedication. It just made me laugh because I wasn't expecting it. Sort of "out of left field"

FINAL THOUGHTS

I've got to listen to the CD for several days on my Bose player. As I mentioned earlier, I liked this much more than I thought I would. My gosh the band was so good back then. I love the Rumours tour and the Tusk tour their playing was really good too. But Mirage they are keeping up with those earlier tours. It's interesting that because Chris had 2 singles off Mirage she chose not to do any of her songs off the White Album where she also had 2 singles. Stevie and Lindsey both do 2 songs off that album. They perform 3 songs from the "infamous" Tusk (that is how Lindsey calls the album on this tour). However Chris chose not to do her single but goes for her deep cut Brown Eyes. The 1980 Live album was always one of my favorites. Which do you like better? I have asked myself that question. I like that this CD is pretty much just two shows combined into one. We get the full set. That is what I miss from the 1980 live album. Its more sporadic with songs from all over the years and different tours. Its tough to answer but I will say both collections compliment each other. My criticism of the 1980 album was no The Chain and Sisters. This collection has BOTH plus Songbird. The 1980 album has incredible live tracks that I dont think could ever be duplicated again.
This tour the setlist just reminds everyone of the greatness of Rumours. The first 4 songs are from Rumours. There are 7 songs from Rumours in the set. I LOVE the fact that Oh Well was performed on this tour. Lindsey does it even better than Peter. He does it far better than Mike Campbell too.
When this collection was announced myself and others on this board figured it was going to be a rehash. But maybe it turned out they actually got it right this time and picked the best songs from each night to make the collection. Maybe thought actually went into this.

Second Hand News - This is fantastic. The only other Mirage version I heard was the US Festival which is all messed up. The band is high and drunk and the mix is all screwed up. This is a polished gem. A fantastic version especially to have on a professional mix CD

The Chain - I have heard this version 100 million times from VHS tape, HBO, TV specials, MTV, personal recordings, and MTV. It still is one of the best versions out there.

Don't Stop - probably the last live version before it became anthem and slowed down a bit. Completely different style of playing back then and I found it so refreshing. A real piano and it actually gets funky and bluesy in the end

Dreams - This is my least favorite song on the 1980 live album. The 1977 Paris sound check does not do it for me. I love this version. I finally found a live version of Dreams that I like.

Oh Well - Lindsey does it better than anyone. Love it

Rhiannon - This was one of my least favorite songs on the VHS Mirage show. Her voice was fried and it just does not sync. This version is so much better. The only thing I miss is the second verse Chris backs Stevie much more on the VHS show. But I think it was because Stevie was struggling. I also love that intro that was cut from the show that is now included. A huge improvement IMHO from the other Rhiannon

Brown Eyes - Chris obviously loved this song and it would be hard to do in concert because its so mood related. But the song carries in concert. Its a confident version and it works really well. In 1987 I did not think the song worked well in concert but this version is fantastic. THANK YOU Chris for putting this in the set so we got this on CD.

Eyes of the World - directly from the HBO show. Love to have a Lindsey Mirage song live on CD

Gypsy - I fell in love with this version. I never thought I would like a version without the do do do do do do because the HBO version set the standard. But this version is now my favorite. Her bridge is better on the HBO version but I like this version better overall

Love in Store - A gem from Mirage this version directly from the HBO show

Not That Funny - directly from Mirage but edited, no?

Never Going Back Again - I love it. He does it like the Tusk tours and I never heard a Mirage version so this was special to hear it

Landslide - beautiful. The 1980 version is very fragile. This one is more confident and its one of my favorite versions ever especially to what this song has turned into live in recent years. Yay Chris on the solo!!!

Tusk - directly from the HBO show with Stevie's goat "Baaaaahhhhhh" Its played faster and I like it!!!!

Sara - LOVE THIS. A full untouched version unlike the 1980 album. She still can hit those high notes here. Another real piano. Its a faster tempo too.

Hold Me - this rocks. Its fantastic. How in the world did they not include this on HBO

You Make Loving Fun - so the Mac did play this version on the Mirage tour. The HBO song is highly edited both visually and audio

I'm So Afraid - great version but directly from HBO

Go Your Own Way - love it but its the HBO version

Sisters - wonderful speaking in tongues version but its the HBO version

Songbird - what a freaking treat to finally have a professional live release of Songbird

Can you imagine if this was release on the heals of the Dance? A real lost opportunity. But we must be thankful it finally showed up. My highlights are: Second Hand News, Dont Stop, Oh Well, Brown Eyes, Gypsy, Landslide, and Hold Me.

Denver? Memphis? Oakland? I linked to Oakland in another thread.

Mirage tour was the fastest they’ve ever played it. It just cascaded out like Formula 1.

It’s great to have the song without the rather tacky clavinet added in post-production.

It’s no serious dent in the momentum, but Lindsey and Mick doing the time-in is edited out here. That bit got wild in 1980. On the Mobile Alabama recording, you can hear Lindsey rather cruelly push Mick into a false start. It makes for fascinating listening.

David, I believe they just cut the drum solo from Not That Funny.

In the Mirage live video, Not That Funny lasts more than 10 minutes (in Youtube there are clips that last 10:55, 10:49, 10:51, it depend how they were cut). In the Mirage Deluxe, it lasts 9:01, and in this year's release, it lasts 9:07.

But I've not checked if they were edited from the same show/date, or belong to different dates.

I believe it's the same date, just no drum solo and the scream... "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"..... (From Mick)
