Default Silver Springs, Stevie and Mick

HEY, guys -

There's something I'm wondering about -
What was the big deal over the song "Silver Springs," between Stevie and Mick? I read yesterday a quote from Stevie - she had apparently wanted to do Silver Springs on one of her early solo tours (maybe Bella Donna or Wild Heart), and she had someone contact Mick, and apparently he said something like, "Over my dead body will she be getting that song from me."
And that, of course, was a source of uhm, err, tension between them.
The thing I really don't understand is -
Wasn't Stevie doing "Dreams" on stage during her solo tours? At least by 1986, 1987 or so? ( for example "Live at Red Rocks." )
So if she could do "Dreams," why not "Silver Springs?"
I seem to remember that Mick had also said something to Stevie, during their big fight in the parking lot when he told her that the song was being taken off of "Rumours," along the lines of, "It's for obvious, multiple reasons."
What's the big deal with Silver Springs, compared to other songs Stevie wrote for Fleetwood Mac???

Mick simply wanted Silver Springs to be used for Fleetwood Mac purposes, not Stevie Nicks purposes. Milk that cash cow.

Well, it was originally written as her "Go Your Own Way." All of the money made from it was going to go to her mother (Thats why the rights of it are in possesion of "Barbra Nicks Music"). So this song meant a lot to Stevie. I've heard that this happened too, and it came to a point that in concert, when she sang "Take your Silver Spoons and dig you grave," she changed it to "Take Your Silver Springs and dig your grave," whilst looking at Mick. I think she does at least the glare thing on the Dance DVD.

But I think the "Over my dead body will she be getting that song from me" quote was made up, because I don't think Mick would have said that.

No. It was that Stevie wanted to include "Silver Springs" on her Timespace album, but Mick wouldn't give her the rights to use it. Apparently, because it was a Fleetwood Mac performance, Mick didn't want Stevie using a Fleetwood Mac recording on her solo album. Why Stevie didn't just go ahead and record a new version of the song, I don't know.

This fight between Stevie & Mick took place in 1991, not during any of her early solo tours. I posted way back about the whole thing on the Ledge. You'd have to search electronically since I don't have much luck with that feature.

Spike Channel, okay I'll look that up. I'm on Time Warner Digital. Is it on their lineup?

I don't know what's ordinary for other ledgies, but I have three BMs in the morning & another two in the afternoon & evening, daily. But I ingest large amounts of fresh fruit & vegetable, so my fiber content is high.

It's not that Mick wouldn't give her the rights, it's more like he couldn't. He had already signed a contract with the record company. What I find interesting is that Stevie never really seemed all that interested in the song. It's not like she ever did it on solo tours or even the "Tango" or BTM tours. It's like it became important to her all of the sudden.

Stevie's interest in the track at that point (1991) was that she wanted to put it on "Timespace" because it belonged to her mom, & she wanted her mom to have some of the profit.
