Making a Driving Playlist for "Casual Fans"
So I'm going on quite a long road trip with some mates, so I have to make some playlists. They told me to pick my "favourite songs" so of course I'm choosing FM/Stevie. I've got some others, but I'm having trouble trying to piece together really good driving songs for the aforementioned road trip and the like. Any suggestions? So far the only one I've thought of to put on there is Sisters of the Moon from Atlanta in 1980 lol. Or we all could discuss our favourite driving songs in general? That might help.

In the car, 4 minutes of an unfamiliar song you don't like can feel like an eternity. For the casual fan, do what FM would do and just give them the hits. Toss in Brown Eyes somewhere in that mix and that should do it.

Playlist suggestions for a casual fan...included are the familiar hits plus a couple of upbeat "driving songs" that I think those unfamiliar would really dig.
1. "Violet & Blue" (like Macfan4life suggested ) 2. "Dreams" (either the album version, Deep Dish version or even the live version from the extra disk off 35th anniversary edition. All are pretty kick ass driving tunes.) 3. "Edge Of Seventeen" 4. "Gypsy" 5. "Running Through The Garden" 6. "Watch Chain" 7. "24 Karat Gold" 8. "Rhiannon" (if you can find the awesome House of Blues version from '94, even better!) 9. "Whenever I Call You Friend" (if your friends don't mind the cheesy sap of late 70's adult contemporary pop.) 10. "Wild Heart" (yeah the ending is a tad schizophrenic, but the rhythm, vocal energy and momentum makes it a perfect driving song.) 11. "Sorcerer" (for the galloping chorus alone...or if you want to keep it a fast song all the way through, use the "Sheryl Crow Radio Edit".) Hope some of those suggestions help! |

For a casual fan and a long road trip... my suggestion would be the most rocking Stevie songs ever. Many people never heard these songs and they are great sing alongs.
Violet and Blue I Cant Wait (extended rock version) Nothing Ever Changes Stop Dragging My Heart Around The Nightmare If Anyone Falls Long Way To Go Whole Lotta Trouble Desert Angel Blue Lamp Sleeping Angel Edge of 17 |

I would just play the entire Rumours album! Chances are, your friends will already know (and like) most of the songs, even if they didn't know they were all Fleetwood Mac.
For Stevie's individual songs, stick with her hits -- Edge of Seventeen, Stand Back... The duets from Bella Donna... And then maybe add in Landslide, HAEWAFY, Lady or any/all of Stevie's Tusk songs for good measure. That's what I would do... Emphasize her rocking songs and then add in something understated but beautiful like Angel or Beautiful Child to show versatility. I'm always singing along to Stevie's Tusk and 24 Karat Gold songs (ie Starshine, Lady, Hard Advice, Blue Water) in the car... Love to belt out the less rocking ones too, so don't discount those!

At risk of bubble-bursting, I would warn against inflicting Violet and Blue or Watch Chain on anyone.

My current go-to playlist for introducing Stevie to friends is as follows:
1) Bella Donna 2) Rhiannon 3) Wild Heart 4) Gypsy (extended) 5) Moonlight 6) Mirror Mirror 7) Rock a Little (extended non-LP version) 8) Talk to Me 9) Seven Wonders 10) 24 Karat Gold 11) Sara (cleaning lady version) 12) Sisters of the Moon 13) Storms 14) Nightbird 15) Standback 16) Sorcerer 17) Gold Dust Woman 18) Silver Springs |

Oh, you're not "bubble bursting". That would entail stating something as fact against someone else's false notion. You're merely stating your own opinion. |

I have to thank you all for your great advice and ideas! I didn't have time to thank you all before I left, but I just wanted to say I appreciated it!
I included most if not all of the songs included on your lists, but I added Sisters of the Moon (speaking in tongues version) and that was definitely the favourite of the day. HOWEVER.... When Edge of Seventeen came on, the girl who was driving said "oh my god I hate this song turn it off I can't stand it ew" so I almost broke her wrist. We were actually going to a music festival near where I'm on holiday, and honestly I saw a lot of the bands, and I was generally not impressed. A little off topic, I know, but I never realized just how good FM is live, and how little star quality today's "talent" actually possess.

I remember driving with a couple of friends when Angel came on blaring. They were floored to say the least.

[QUOTE] I just heard Edge on the car radio the other day and thought to myself how well this song has stood the test of time. |
