Mick Supports Sausalito Studio Preservation
This is a press release from the studio:
MICK FLEETWOOD JOINS PRESERVATION EFFORT FOR ICONIC SAUSALITO STUDIO BUILDING A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Arena – San Francisco: While in the San Francisco during Fleetwood Mac’s most recent tour, Mick Fleetwood stopped by to pay homage to the Sausalito studio where “Rumours” was recorded over thirty years ago. Finding the door locked, he asked his assistant to do some research. Next thing you know, he’s starring in a video to help to save it. "The rich music legacy contained in these walls is awe inspiring and worthy of preservation," states Mari Tamburo, independent music artist spearheading the effort to preserve the building as a music arts incubator. “The goal of the Artsboretum project is to preserve this building’s legacy, while ushering in a new non-profit model of artist development for an ever changing music industry. We hope to stimulate creativity and our arts economy at the same time.” “We made an album here, ‘Rumours,’ in this building... It is truly an iconic studio.” Fleetwod states. The Sausalito studio opened as The Record Plant, Sausalito, in 1972 and closed in 2008. One of the final albums recorded there, “The Fray” has gone double platinum. "Sadly at the moment... it is resting, waiting to be helped…there are endless, endless bands who recorded here. It really represented a huge musical power that came out of the United States… In truth, I came to pay homage myself, and found that the door was locked, and was able to get in touch with some people who are trying to keep this whole dream alive…and finding the help to do that, so I'm just reaching out in this little segment here." Fleetwood said. That video is now posted on You Tube, in an attempt to raise awareness and funding for the preservation effort. Fleetwood Mac is currently on tour, and was forced to cancel a handful of shows this past week due to illness. Cancelled shows are to be rescheduled at a future date. “This really only happened because we had to cancel the Sacramento show, “ stated Fleetwood, as he stood in the parking lot in Sausalito, looking at the carved wooden door. Fleetwood Mac has since resumed their tour and will be on the road until June 17th. “To have Mick’s support for this preservation effort is nothing short of a miracle,“ Tamburo said. "If just a small fraction of the people whose lives have been touched by the music created here donated only ONE dollar to our cause, we would have more than enough funding to preserve this building and jumpstart our non-profit programming.” To view the Mick Fleetwood video, and for more information on how to make an online donation: http://www.plantstudios.org To donate by check, make it out to: IH Center/Artsboretum IH Center/Artsboretum 1001 Bridgeway #144 Sausalito, CA 94965 |

Thank you for this bit of hopeful news. I'd read awhile back that the studio was in limbo. Made me sad, because I haven't seen it yet. It was on my "bucket list." I'd pretty much taken it off after I read that it was in danger of going away, but maybe I can put it back on now.
I'll be making an online donation and I hope others here will do the same. YAY Mick!! |
