Stevie Nicks confirms new solo album, single Show Them the Way

October 1, 2020

Stevie Nicks is back with new music – her latest single Show Them the Way is set to drop on October 9th!

The Fleetwood Mac star confirmed her latest release during an interview with the Los Angeles Times, revealing her first solo release since 2014 album 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault was born out of a dream she had in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election.

According to Nicks, she was invited to perform at a political benefit for icons of history in her vision, and Martin Luther King, Jr. led her by the arm into a ballroom where John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy and John Lewis were seated, awaiting her.

The dream was so vivid that she wrote a poem based on her recollection, titled The Kennedy’s, which she shared online back in January, 2009.
In addition to the new track, which will be accompanied by a Cameron Crowe-directed music video, she’s also working on a new solo album and will spend the remainder of the pandemic turning the poetry from her journals into lyrics, per the LA Times.

Earlier this year, Eurythmics star Dave Stewart, who collaborated with Nicks on 24 Karat Gold and previous album In Your Dreams, confirmed he was working on tracks with the singer.

It’s the latest project for the star, who will also hit cinema screens later this month with her 24 Karat Gold: The Concert movie. Check out her performance of Gypsy here.

The release will be accompanied by a live album, set to drop at the end of October.

Here is her poem called The Kennedy, which her new single Show Them the Way is based off of. (If this is the song, it sucks.)

The Kennedy’s

I had a fragile dream
In a great house in the Hamptons
I’d been there before
Singing songs ~ doing benefits
I was in a room alone
Putting on my make-up
Like so many things have come to me,
The dress ~ came across the Persian carpet~
As I fell into the dress
A thought came to me
Into my heart~
“I have a dream”
And a door opened~
It’s time now~ they’re waiting
I turned around to face the music (the dreamers)
“I’m ready for the Kennedy’s~”

I don’t know if it was 1960 or 1963
Everything was timeless ~ even me
I wasn’t old~ I wasn’t young~
I was just ~ part of the dream.
A shadow walked with me ~ down the hall
It was Martin Luther King~
All in shadow ~ all before me
Overwhelmed by destiny
Someone said, “sing us a song”
“There’s the piano..
And handed me a drink~
The room was full of hope~
A song would set them free…

I sat at the piano
I stared at the shadows
I sang the words “I have a dream”
He wasn’t my old friend John ~ I didn’t know him…then
But he smiled at me
And I sang these words
“What ever it takes to be free”
I didn’t know these men~
But they knew me~

It was all symbolic,
Nothing was as it seemed.
They all left us in a single shot~
But they didn’t take the dream.
They were there in that house,
Discussing the future~
Drinking champagne.
I was just the piano player~
The voice ~ part of their dream.
I was 35 ~ or maybe I was 15~
It was just a night in the presence
Of Martin Luther King~
I was just a dreamer;
I was ready for the Kennedys…

I got up from the piano
I bowed my head
As I walked thru the room
They touched my hands
Write about hope and a change of plan~
Light up the world if you can~

Light the fire ~ start it over
Tell the world about the dream
Change the world ~ begin again
Start it up ~ make it real~
Back in the room where it all began
My heart began to hurt~

I remember the beauty of the Hamptons
The shadows playing in the sun
And a voice said “The dream is not over~”
“The dream has just begun~”
I spun around to another shadow
Slipping through the door~
My eyes opened ~ wide …
What is all this for?
The shadows said ~ “Don’t forget ~”
“What we were fighting for…”

Why would care about a new album you completely relinquished and renounced your Stevie fandom quite some time ago

One CAN be a fan of the past works of an artist, even if you think their work for the past 35 years blows chunks.

She didn’t know these men, but they all knew her. That’s a testament to how famous she is.

The poem is fantastic. Don't let your current anger with her cloud your judgement.

The poem is horrendous. But I do like the lyrics from Straight Back in there.

I like the poem a lot. It's vivid like Wide Sargasso Sea.

I'm looking forward to hearing Minnie's vocals. Her alto (I think) really props up Stevie's songs live.

I'm not a Sharona buyer. Stevvi was my favorite

I hope she plays piano better in the dream than she does real life.

You might be forgetting it was a dream she had where MLK was her usher. We cannot control our dreams. I have had many dreams about being onstage in Fleetwood Mac standing between Stevie and Lindsey. I have had many dreams over the years of hearing SN songs that do not exist and so wished I could fully remember them when I awoke. So cool that Stevie remembered her dream and instantly wrote it on paper and then created a cool poem to go along with.

I am not sure who is handling her press right now--Daffy Duck? They should be fired. She is aimlessly floating off on the rings of saturn and her people are letting it happen.
She sounds like more of a loon than she ever did before

It’s one thing to have a dream, it’s another to tell the media about it. I often dreamed that I was married to Michael Jackson. I don’t talk about those dreams much any longer.

How was he in the sack? Was he Bad? Did he wear a glove? Or did he Beat It?

Sorry, those instantly popped into my head, and I couldn't resist!

I am too but I wait in fear, for I have heard brand new songs of hers over the years and my love secretly died.

Ironically just last night I had a dream I went to a record store and saw a 45 picture sleeve of Stevie's new single. In the dream the song was called HIM and the B-side was called HER. I had to buy a special record player in order to hear it and finally there I was in my room listening to HIM. The song was pretty good, and though I didn't love it at first, I knew with repeated listenings it would grow on me in time. I played it twice in a row and then flipped it over to hear HER. Was I ever so disappointed when I realized it was the exact same song as HIM but with the gender changed to a female. We all know Stevie can be very lazy in her writing at times.
