Now come on guys! The singing on this live version is plain awful. No matter what freaky kind of fan I am- I was embarassed as I heard it and afraid that he possibly could have lost his voice over the years. Which he hasn't as I can state after seeing them live in autumn. But the point is: this song was too much for him and he wasn`t able to hit the notes.
The finger picking arrangement didn`t bother me though. If he had managed to sing it right I would have been happy with the song.

I'm sorry, but Lindsey's take on Here Comes the Sun was the most intense, dramatic, heartfelt and personal cover I've ever heard - The only problem with it is that he didnt make some of the notes, so its sounds like he's gratuitously wailing, but really those vocals towards the end have an operatic sort of power to them and they blow me away each time.

I love it! A definite inclusion on Carne's covers album list.
He butchered the song, he disrespected George Harrison's memory, he should've taken ABC's hint and not done the song. End of story.

Very nice pun. Was it intentional?

Gerald, I like Lindsey's Here Comes the Sun. I was merely suggesting that playing Hey Bulldog the way Lindsey approached Here Comes the Sun might not work. Hey Bulldog is a bad-ass tune because of that mean electric guitar riff. So if Lindsey were to add Travis picking to the number, it would have to be layered under the riff for it to work for me.

It was so intentional that I actually was explaining it in the sentence afterwards. luckily I edited it 5 mins later.

hey bulldog could be working! Maybe even helter skelter for the same reasons...

Glad you like HCTS.

I couldn't care less. I like it when someone loses it due to the intention and emotion of the performance. And-for me- that is happening, in this case.

I'm not defending out of fandom. I really loved it immediately. It just hits my soul, whatever your arguments are.

Steve Harley (& Cockney Rebel) sang it live in 77. Also out of tune. Great version. It's the opener of his great live-epos Face to face.

Essence (Lucinda Williams)
Solitary Man (Chirs Isaak; acoustic a la Big Love)
Gold (John Stewart)
Cactus (David Bowie; could be one of the sexiest songs ever recorded)
Humpty Dumpty (Aimee Mann)
Rainy Day Women (Bob Dylan; I think it would be totally awesome)
Illume (Fleetwood Mac; just out of curiosity!!!)
Heart of Gold (Neil Young)
Try Some, Buy Some (George Harrison)
Roxanne (The Police)
She Smiled Sweetly (The Stones)
I've Been Waiting For You (Neil Young; bombastic a la Come)

Just checking...you DO know that "Solitary Man" is a Neil Diamond song, right?

I don't think he was dissing Neil Diamond... just pointing out the fact that "Solitary Man" is not a Chris Isaak original.

I'm not. Dissention had posted "Solitary Man (Chris Isaak.."

Just making sure that Neil D is given credit for writing the song. That's all.

"Solitary Man" is a fantastic song!

And I have to say that, while Lindsey's interpretation of "Here Comes The Sun" was kind of jarring at first, I actually like it considerably.

The original can never be improved upon, so why bother doing a paint-by-numbers version that can't help but pale in comparison?
Lindsey put a new spin on it that's pure Buckingham.

Cool Here Comes The Sun!

Amen to you Johnny Stew!!!
Our feelings...exactly!!! Lindsey
was so hurt by Harrisons death
he has a tearful little sound in
his vocal like he is ready to CRY!
His performance gave us shivers!
What a Showman! Bless Him!Sky

ps...He could have played Dylans
Love Minus Zero just as well!!!

Yup, but I think Neil's version pales in comaprison to Isaak's, unfortunately. Which is strange because Neil is *the man.*

I wouldn't mind hearing Lindsey's take on She Drives Me Crazy by the Fine Young Cannibals. Now THAT would be interesting live!
