Question Song that says Lindsey?

Which song has he written that just says Lindsey? The one that describes what he's about, what he's like, his personality the most?

I know I am uber-predictable, so here goes: ISA.

Look at the lyrics...and even TODAY, they apply to him.

"Been alone all the years, so many ways to count the tears, I never change, I never will, I'm so afraid, the way I feel..."

This tells about his life. He is still the same Lindsey in terms of his stance of things and how he works. He'll always be the studio hermit we all love and adore.

"days when the rain and the sun are gone, black as night, agonys torn at my heart too long...so afraid, slip and I fall and I die."

Lindsey is always looked at as the "tortured artist", the one who doesn't get any respect or props for his work out there in the world. I believe he is still afraid of things...and no matter how old a person gets, they always have fear of something.

"Been alone, always down, no one cared to stay around, I never change, I never will, I'm so afraid the way I feel..."

He lost his dad, Stevie, his brother, other girlfriends and more recently, his mom, so he's felt plenty of loss, just like everyone does. This could even apply to the record company today and how they let him down by not believing in his music. "No one cared to stay around" meaning, the record people didn't want to stick with him.

He has said this is his favorite song to play in concert (along with Big Love) and I think it's because he puts EVERY OUNCE of his soul into playing it. It's his "magical" song, IMO.

It's mine as well.

I was going to say "Go Your Own Way", but the more I thought about it, I think "I'm So Afraid" IS a better choice.

Why? Well, the three tours that Fleetwood Mac did after he left in 87 to when he came back, the band did NOT play "ISA", but they ALWAYS had "GYOW" in the set. So, somebody understood that "ISA" was Lindsey's featured "signature tune" in concert. Yeah, and the lyrics are the most personal to him, as well.

But, Christy, I think you're reading too much into his lyrics from the standpoint of retrospect, rather than where Lindsey was at when he wrote the song in 1973 or 74. Need to look at what was going on with him THEN. You can read anything into just about ANYONE's lyrics from 30 year hindsight.

Arrow Chilid...

Well, yeah, obviously, when he wrote the song, the record company thing, tortured artist stuff, etc. wouldn't apply. I just mean that even tho he did write it back then, the words can have added meaning today as well. The fact he's older and has experienced a lot, you can add those experiences to those lyrics.

BTW, I was going to say GYOW at first too, but then I thought, it's a song about Stevie only really, and she's not the only thing he's dealt with in his life.

Good point, I totally overlooked that. By all means, he could have a new association with the lyrics from later circumstances. Probably why he still enjoys playing & singing the song. (although, I WOULD like to hear him substitute "Murrow..." in place of it for a while)

What about 'Without a Leg to Stand On' from Buckingham Nicks? He wrote it when he was young, but when you think about it...it kind of applies to all the struggles he's had throughout his whole life.

I got nothin' but time
No time for living
I've been everywhere
It's all the same
I just need somebody
That I can lean on
Nobody wants to keep you
When you're in love with the game

But you know that I can't let go
And there ain't nothin' left to show
Got the feeling I can't say no without a
leg to stand on

There's so many fine people
That I believe in
They don't care where I'm going
It's not their show
I got nothin' but time
No time for living
I used to be somebody
But that was so long ago

Look around but you won't see me
Just a picture of what I used to be
There ain't nothin' to set me free without a
leg to stand on

But you know that I can't let go
And there aint nothin' left to show
Got the feelin' I can't say no
Without a leg to stand on

Lala, very astute choice. That song popped into my mind on the train yesterday and I just to hear it, so I found it on my iPod and wondered why I don't listen to it more often.

ISA, though, is probably as much of a signature tune as anything. Consider Street of Dreams too.

Cool Song That Says Lindsey...

Say Goodbye...it is over girls!
Now... I've finally found my way...

ONCE YOU said GOODBYE to ME!
NOW...I...SAY Goodbye to YOU!

You picked our... older tunes!
Iam so Afraid...when he had mono!
Go Your Own Way!Go with Don & Mick!

We also just adore his lyrics on:
Trouble!Come to me darlin' hold me tight!
Shadow of The West sung with Christine!!!
Walk a Thin Line! He's so hurt by FMac!Sky

Generally, I'd pick Family Man, need I explain?

I want to pick a happy light song because I don't think he's been happier really. He has a baby coming and his life seems almost surreal, too perfect.

We can't live without problems, but I think he would say he's his happiest now, I know he's said that and other's have said that about him.

Walk A Thin Line. Kinda sad. Kinda hopeful. Kinda bitter. All reflective loner. It's just the one that immediately popped into my head.

I thought about "Big Love". The thing he was always 'looking out for', and that he has finally found, as he says when he introduces the song in the concerts now.

Other that popped into my head was "Soul Drifter" but I might be wrong about that one.

Heart

Since the main theme of Lindsey's songs is 'sex' rather than 'love,' I'd say LOLA, MY LOVE, is the song that started it all..........

Lola my love
Sure knows how to treat her man
Lola my love
She does everything a woman can
When I come home one thing on my mind
She knows just what I'm lookin' for
And in the morning after
I say
Lola you sure can love
Lola-Lola
Lola-Lola
