Default Why No Little Lies on The Dance?

Anyone have an idea why not?

I love the fact that Everywhere was performed, but Little Lies is one of th Macs big hits....

Thoughts?

Supposedly they rehearsed it, but didn't like the way it sounded.

Little Lies didn't sound that great on the Shake The Cage Tour, IMO, but I still think it's a better song that Everywhere.

I think that it would've been cool if they'd put Little Lies on The Dance, but I was more than satisfied with Everywhere.

Lots of Christine's later stuff didn't seem to go over very well live, in my opinion. I think they did a pretty decent job with "Everywhere", but the odd thing was that Christine wasn't on the keys during it! They had a bunch of prerecorded background music while she took spotlight up front on stage.

Little Lies has so much going on in it that I doubt they could ever nail it live. So much of it has that unique sound that I don't think it would work having Lindsey pick up parts on guitar to compensate. It'd be fun to see them try, though.

Also if you listen to old versions of "Hold Me" live it's pretty bumpy. They can't get the harmonies down and it just sounds rough. Plus they try to liven it up with changing the melody/lyrics around and it kinda kills it for me. It's not a rockin' song, it's a sweet harmony song. On the copy I have, Lindsey talks it up like crazy before they play it, saying it's one of his favorites off Mirage and he thinks its a hell of a song. I got a kick out of that.

On a side note - I love what they did with "Over My Head" on the 1980 live album. I never thought that would be fun live, but they pepped it up with that honky-tonk guitar opening and gave it a quicker beat. I think that was one of the best Christine songs translated live.

*getting even more off-topic for a second* I agree! I love the Live '80 version of Over My Head... absolutely awesome.

I like SYLM, Why and YMLF live and there's probably a couple others. There's nothing wrong with Don't Stop. But a lot of her other stuff doesn't seem to sound right live. Little Lies does not sound as good on the Tango in the Night DVD. Maybe it's kinda like Gypsy...the studio work is so well done that it can't be copied on stage. I heard part of one live copy of Hold Me (I'm just getting into this whole bootleg thing) and I didn't even listen to the whole thing because the harmonies were just horrible.

I do a lot of harmony singing and I just hear harmonies in my head so it drives me up the wall when people can't get it.

Yep. Lindsey did TOO good of a job in the studio. Made Gypsy and Little Lies SO freakin' good on record, that they really couldn't be touched live. Same with Hold Me.

Boy they really changed it up by the end of it! That seems like a really weird list to me for a reunion/comeback show. Lots of classics missing, like Gypsy, YMLF, Silver Springs, Tusk, ISA, etc. and no Bleed to Love Her! I dunno, it doesn't seem to make sense to me, I don't think I believe it (no offense, hehehe )...

I agree that a lot of Christine's later stuff didn't come across well live. YMLF is probably her best live, and of course, Songbird. I liked SYLM on the Dance because of the banjo, but not really on other tours. Don't Stop has always been okay. The rest....not so good. Although I think they should have kept Why in the setlist permanently.

I have to say, me neither. Some of those songs I don't even recognize, and this band does not have a history of "going out on a limb" for live sets! "Silver Springs" was a huge deal, and for that not to be on here is extremely telling.

I think we had a discussion here a while back where that setlist and a lot of stuff in Peter Lewry's book was inaccurate.
