Thumbs up

I just got home from seeing American Idiot on Broadway. A friend offered me a free ticket and I jumped at the chance.

I really didn't know what to expect and I hadn't read too much about it, but it was absolutely amazing and unlike anything else i've seen on broadway. IMHO.

I don't even know how to describe this...it was like Rent meets Reality Bites meets Nirvana's first year of playing in a band. I really enjoyed the departure from the normal broadway show format. I mean don't get me wrong, it's a musical, but it has such a different vibe then many other shows I've seen.

What I enjoyed most is the fact that seeing this show has me interested in finding out more about Green Day. I've always liked their music, but never paid too much attention to it when it wasn't the song playing on the radio. But now I want to dig deeper and find out more about the band and who they are and where they came from, what's behind their song writing, etc.

Anyway, just wanted to pass along my excitement about this show. If anyone finds themselves in NYC and gets the chance to see the show, just go, no questions asked. As a fan of music, there's no doubt that you won't enjoy this.

Woke up this morning, went to get on my laptop and there was some HUGE crack on the lid by one of the hinges. It wasn't there yesterday so what the HELL. Turned it on and it worked fine but it's right where that cord that hooks the screen to the rest of the computer is. Lovelyyy, so until I get that fixed I'm on my old slow as **** laptop and it's getting on my nerves. Better than nothing I guess.

Hmm? A slow laptop? Tell me more!
(I'm always attracted to old, slow hardware so I can whack a light Linux distro on it and watch it start working as if it were a modern, brand new computer.)

Yeah it's definitely slow, my new one as soon as you click something it pops right up. This one takes forever. It's a Dell Inspiron 1501 that I got about 3/4 years ago.

Sounds a bit like my mum's laptop actually (perhaps better - her's is 6yo). It doesn't get from boot to a working desktop for well over a minute, let alone the time it takes for apps to open. If she ran even a medium-sized distro on it (e.g. Ubuntu 10.04, which I'm using) it'd fly like my laptop (all of two months old, with ~30sec boot-desktop time). Even Mac's OS X 10.6 would work on it pretty nicely, if it accepted all the hardware...
The basic difference is Windows is, well, Windows like (there's really no other OS quite like it), while Linux and OS X are Unix-like. The nature of a Unix-like OS is simple, at least to the computer (arguably, if not also the user), so it runs with much lower hardware requirements.
I imagine the satisfaction for nerds of making an old computer run fast is comparable to car-lovers restoring an old car.

Yeah I wish this one was a bit faster, but it's better than nothing I guess! I read it's because of the processor size (which isn't very big especially compared to the one I typically use) and the fact it's running Vista which takes up a lot is part of the reason it's slower.

Blame not the processor! You'd be surprised at what old hardware can do if given the right environment (which Vi$ta obviously isn't)...
As an interesting side, W7 actually has higher hardware requirements than Vista. The main reasons it feels faster is that it's been optimised for everyday tasks, and boot speeds have also been optimised.

I believe you. ....

It's simple logic for me - - -

Christine wrote Songbird.
And Brown Eyes.
Therefore Christine is the greatest songwriter ever,
or darned tootin' close to it.

As I have been ranting about on various threads lately, John Nolan is back in Taking Back Sunday. This is the equivalent of Christine joining Fleetwood Mac again...ok maybe not to the general public, but for me it is I am so excited to hear their new album they are working on

Well John is answering questions on formspring and he has answered like 10 of mine! Yeah it sounds lame, but picture it being Stevie actually doing the ask Stevie thing again. I am that stoked about it.....*nerd alert* And for visual purposes...this is John Nolan:

For more visual purposes, one of the questions he answered of mine.
