Thumbs up

Hey, congrats. on your new purchase! There ain't nothin' like a brand new six-string!

LB is playing an electro-acoustic Gibson Chet Atkins CE. Sounds absolutely wonderful going through an amp but unplugged it's not that impressive. From the positions of the capo and his fingers I assume he's playing Big Love (same guitar he used for it and Go Insane on The Dance). Cool pic!

Thumbs up CONGRATS!!

That's a BEAUTIFUL guitar, congrats!! You know what? That guitar looks like it's made of velvet-y material. LOL Just from the softness of the photo...that rich color looks so soft to me.

That photo looks like a painting to me...I think we should title it....GORGEOUS MAN playing gorgeous guitar. HEHE!!

When it comes to amps you're looking at anything between $100 and well over $2,000! I suggest you go to a shop with the largest(acoustic) amp range with your guitar in-hand and try out the ones that fall within your price range. If you're gonna spend say between $200 and $400, then I suggest you find one around the $400 mark and just try to haggle the price down with the guy! Differences in amp quality make HUGE differences in your sound (although main tone of course comes from yourself), so it's a good idea to spend as much as you possibly can on a good amp.
By the way, what's the exact model of your guitar?

(p.s. If it comes down to choosing between 2 or 3 amps, let me know which ones they are and I'll tell you what I think, if you want.)

Model GA5TCE

Is the one Lindsey has have nylon strings?

You're right, it doesn't have kick to it without an amp, but I love it! It is so thin an comfortable.

Since these amps are so expensive, will I be albe to alter the sound, sort of like a synthesizer?

Yea the Chet Atkins has nylon strings. The tone, IMO, is actually quite similar to a electroacoustic classical Spanish guitar - an attribute not clearly heard by just listening to Big Love/Go Insane, but if you listen to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" you'll see what I mean.

Re: "changing the sound"...well, try and get a decent amp which has a reverb control on it. Other than that, if you're going to get an acoustic-specific amp, then there really isn't anything else that you're going to find on the amp itself other than the usual EQ and volume controls. "Stand-by" and "presence" are also two useful features. However, if you have any cash left over, get a delay pedal. Delay and reverb are the only two really useful FX for an acoustic sound, as you're obviously playing clean at all times. Those two FX will give your sound some really nice dimension.

Ibanez GA5TCE...nice choice of guitar, congrats. again! (Although don't expect it to sound like that Chet Atkins...! It may look the same (from a distance) with a cutaway and gold hardware, but that's where the similarity ends - they are two very different guitars.)

If you get the right amp, there should be reverb on it, even for acoustic guitars. Reverb used in moderation is a nice addition. I always use it on my vocals too. Believe me, they need it.

BlueGrass, I've had a couple of Ibanez guitars. They were nice playable instruments. You will be happy with yours. I just sold an acoustic/electric that was set up to play very easily. I had to make room for a new Martin.

Good luck with your new instrument. When you're ready to upgrade in a year or two, be sure to stop by for suggestions.
