As I am not from the US and understand this definition clearly....calling a female a whore for her sexual practises, as has been sadly done in the past on here, I find very offensive and rightly so...however a money whore or attention whore describing Mick for example, to me is not at all as I agree with the Dictionary definition. It entirely depends on whether it is a sexually based comment or not I believe. |

It's so disrespectful to call an original member of our beloved band such a name. You know what? Mick has done so much good for this band over the years and I find it offensive that you and other call him such horrible names. I am incredibly thankful to Mick Fleetwood for steering the ship for about 50 years of incredible music. Without Mick Fleetwood, there would be no Danny Kirwan songs in Fleetwood Mac. Without Mick Fleetwood, there would be no Christine McVie songs in Fleetwood Mac. Without Mick Fleetwood, there would be no Bob Welch songs in Fleetwood Mac. Without Mick Fleetwood, there would be no Lindsey Buckingham songs in Fleetwood Mac. If you want to get specific, without Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey's career probably would have fizzled out and he would have most likely abandoned his music career like so many other talented musicians have done. Without Mick Fleetwood, there would be no Stevie Nicks songs in Fleetwood Mac. If you want to get specific, Stevie Nicks may have returned home and abandoned her music career had it not been for Mick Fleetwood. Thank you Mick for recruiting Danny Kirwan . Thank you Mick for recruiting Christine Perfect to join the band. Thank you Mick for recruiting Bob Welch to join when the band desperately needed a steady hand to transition between era's. Thank you Mick for finding and recruiting Lindsey/Stevie to join the band and usher in a period that yielded so many classic albums. Thank you Mick for all you have done for this band that we love ... |

Imma play Devil's Advocate here a moment and pose this:
What all greatness might not have happened if Mick Fleetwood had not stood in all these people's way? Where might those individuals not have gone, what wonderful great things might they have accomplished? Maybe Danny Kirwan would have been happy and a nice married grandpa, instead of in his grave, for instance. Musically too, what might not have transpired had Mick not been around to pull people to him for his financial gain. Because let's face it, that's why he invited people to HIS band, selfishly: to make it good and make a ton of money. Just saying. But we'll never know of course. However, the logic's as plausible as the one you are availing yourself of there, mouse.

The thread has reminded me of the website Mick Fleetwood operated many years ago. Anyone remember it? There was a forum, as I recall, run by a guy whom webbies took to calling "Toad." Was his name Jonathan Something-That-Rhymes-With-Toad? Or Todd? He seemed hellbent on convincing everyone how sweet and ethical a guy Mick was.
We were all really excited at first and jammed the place with chatter. But something started smelling after about a month or two—the admin began acting like a dick, appointing a small group of sycophants as his police cadre, who of course proceeded to ban strong-minded individuals right and left (because what else does a fan forum do but ban fans who don't fit the mold?). Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely should be the motto of every failed Fleetwood Mac web forum. Anyway, this place died out after about a year. There was even a meet and greet with Mick — exorbitantly priced and pushed on fans relentlessly. Forum goers finally got the idea that maybe the caring and sharing and chitchat weren't really the purpose of this site after all; maybe they were being used as customers bordering on bunco victims. Many forum users complained about the cost or the chintziness of the product . . . BAM they were out. Other fans defended them . . . BAM they were out. The more timid fans admitted that, yes, Mick could be a greedy bastard sometimes . . . BAM they were out too. The site was insufferably puritanical and self-righteous, a lot like the Nicks Fix under John Kinney (who once kick-banned me out of a chat for discussing great James Bond villainesses—I mentioned Pussy Galore).

I also remember the username of the principal moderator: Trinity. IIRC, he wasn't employed by Mick Fleetwood, but a fan who had been "promoted" - and boy, did it go to his head! He banned folks left and right! For the curious, I did a search and found a few old threads that will give you the gist of fan feeling at the time: Jonathan Todd / Fan Club - What Happened? I love Mick, I’m not convinced he was completely in the wrong without knowing what went down, and even I think he’s a money whore. And, I don’t necessarily think that’s a flaw. By his own admission, he was always coming up with schemes to make money, even before he was a professional musician.

The essence of Mick was him promoting the Atari computer in 1990. At that moment, not so bad, but in perspective - a bit shortsighted and embarrassing.

There aren't tons of people on "The Ledge" anymore. This is a very out-dated forum which most people do not bother with any longer. Facebook, Twitter are just two examples of where the majority of fans of bands and actors now utilize. The Ledge has become a small, niche forum which hardly represents the majority of fan opinions. Without an ad-blocker in your browser, these forums are filled with spam and advertisements. You are wasting your time with all your excessive postings in some kind of quest to right the wrongs of a few people. Why do you care? Nobody else does. You must have an empty, bored life with an extreme amount of time on your hands. But go ahead, keep posting. You aren't going to change anything or impact much, besides getting a few people to block your username. Nobody cares. I get tired of all the negativity here, but at the end of the day, I honestly could care less of what people say on an anciently out-dated internet fan forum where very few people post. I read the threads that I find interesting. And I've met a few cool people to exchange messages with here. You truly are far more annoying than nails on a chalk board. You are a random FM Troll

apparently some people's tactic is to diminish and minimize the number of people who disagree with their premise. even though it is apparent the majority of people here disagree. for starters, 48 people voted LB as their new favorite FM member; last time i checked 48 does not equal 5, but i'm sure it does in some people's world . while Sugar Mick's vote for himself is one of the 3 votes last time i checked.

Yes, and the other two are people that made multiple votes that included 4 or 5 other band members too. (I didn't even know you could vote for more than one)

As someone who has been on this board for over a decade and has lurked for a lot longer, people's opinions here do not bother me as they are entitled to them whatever they may be whether it's praising or criticism. Name calling doesn't bother me either as it's just an expressive way of airing out emotions. It's not like they are threats of violence so what does it matter?
Anyway, criticism is a good thing. Too much ass kissing and places become almost too controlling and people can't express themselves honestly so what's the point in posting at all? Everyone is fallible, even the enchanting Miss Nicks and the animal Mr. Fleetwood. They are not above criticism. I literally posted the following on the Ivory Keys facebook page and got my comment deleted; "Uh look, I admire Mick as much as the next guy but saying they have to say creative when he had no problems with cash grab Hits tours for the past decade? Little hypocritical, don't ya think?" |

And let's not even get into the fan club debacle that Mick and Jonathan Todd cooked up. It was marketed as the most interactive tour they will have ever had done, mick was going to make behind the scenes videos every week and all this talk. Membership included tix in the first so many rows. Long story short...they took peoples cash and didn't deliver half of what they said they were going to deliver. Fan Club seats were in the back of the house...there may have been one or two videos posted at the onset of the tour and it was radio silence after that. It was so bad, fans were showing up wearing t-shirts and signs calling out both Mick and this Todd dude over the whole debacle. Side note: two years or so somebody purchased a storage locker at auction and it must of belonged to either Todd or somebody in Micks camp because it was loaded with Mick Fleetwood wine related items, stacks of the DVD-Audio version of Say You Will, drum heads, drum sticks, posters for his costco cash grab appearances that nobody attended, all Mick related items.
