Wrong

Lindsey Buckingham – “Wrong” November 29th, 2012 | Author: Kit I just finished a review of Lindsey Buckingham’s new live album, One Man Show, for Blinded by Sound. As I wrote the piece, I reflected on how he has forged his own path in music; does he draw any easy comparisons to other artists? His sometimes eccentric production, highly confessional songwriting, and unusually powerful voice mark him as a true individual. One of my favorite solo tracks is “Wrong,” a track of Buckingham’s criminally underrated album Out of the Cradle. In both the song and video below, he is at once playful and hungry, biting the hand that feeds him. It also includes some wicked lead guitar with slightly odd sound effects mixed in–in other words, it’s a classic Buckingham song. After checking out “Wrong,” do sample his other solo works as well. You won’t be disappointed.

Out of the Cradle may still qualify as his best solo album, though Under the Skin is also stellar. Seeds We Sow may be close to Out of the Cradle, and perhaps even surpass it in some ways. Cradle benefits from that uniformity of sound that I talked about in another thread, a uniformity that SYW and GOS lack.
Since Cradle, the only solo record that didn't hit a homeroom for me was the official GOS, which would have been probably his best ever in its original form. "Wrong" is a great tune. Take that, Mick. |

Yes, Wrong is incredible. Often quirky songs end up sounding dated, but that's not really the case here. Wrong could have been on the GOS album, to me.

I do love this song! OOTC is my favorite time period for Lindsey. He just oozes sex and attitude

I always hate singling out tracks on Out Of The Cradle since it is obviously one continual whole piece of work (like Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds or Smile), but, "Wrong" is probably the one track that DOES stand out in my mind over the rest. If you listen really closely, it's basically a new song built over the same jungle beat as "Tusk"...in the typical Buckingham way of recycling sounds, riffs/licks, lyrics & concepts he has used previously.
The entire Out Of The Cradle album is just the completion of the concept/sound/production techniques that he used on Tango In The Night...to the point of seemingly just writing new songs that sounded like the songs he used for the Tango... sessions; i.e. "Doing What I Can" as the replacement for "Big Love", "Soul Drifter" for "You & I, Part 2", etc.

Richard Thompson comes to mind.
ETA: except RT shunned commercialism. But it's all there: folk-ish rocker, had the biggest success with "the break-up album" (Shoot Out The Lights), ex-sig other's voice changed, wasn't inspired by blues, harmonized well, etc...Not a big fan of studio BS, but had more good releases as a result. I'd take "Shoot Out The Lights" over "Mirage" and "Rumor and Sigh" over OOTC.
