Fleetwood Mac Show to Aid Jacques Cousteau Society

Fleetwood Mac will open their post-Rumors national tour February 28 at the 3600 seat Berkeley Community Theatre with a benefit concert for the Jacques Cousteau Society, of which John and Christine McVie are members.

The booking represents a major coup for the Student Union Program, Entertainment and Recreation Board (SUPERB) of the University of California at Berkeley. The coup is compounded by the fact that Fleetwood could easily play a venue ten times as big. It is expected however, that the band will return to the area during the summer to headline a Day on the Green at Oakland Stadium.

75% of the seats in the hall will be priced at $12.50, with the remaining 25% at $10. Original proposals called for a uniform price but SUPERB opted for one break point which would separate out the most undesirable seats. "We do not consider the price high," said SUPERB publicity spokesman Robert Blades, "considering that this facility is so far preferable to anywhere else one might see the band, and considering that Jethro Tull just did a benefit in L.A. at $25 a ticket"

Direct beneficiary of the event will be the Berkeley Students for the Cousteau Society, which will use the proceeds to conduct an environmental day on the campus April 23, at which Cousteau will speak personally. Tp emphasize his desire for participation, Cousteau has cur the $15 membership fee to $5 for students.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a Cousteau film, "Flight of the Penguins", after which Fleetwood Mac will do a two-hour set.

I love what that "Hits of the Week" section says about the white album. Of course what it says about Rumours, too. But the 1975 album is not usually praised as much as Rumours.

The question as to whether Fleetwood Mac would be able to follow-up its monstrous “Fleetwood Mac” lp has been magnificently answered in the affirmative.

As mentioned above, a very positive Rumours review is also included on the second page. Further down, the publication also provided a chart section, essentially their own variation of the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts and the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Cashbox also published their own magazines around this time with the same information

Of the big three music publications (Billboard, Cashbox, and Record World), I could only find a formal review of "Go Your Own Way" on Billboard, although it's very possible that Record World also published their own commentary on January 1st of January 8th, which has yet to be digitized. "Go Your Own Way" was released just before Christmas 1976 in the US, and the December 25th editions of all publications simply provided a synopsis of the greatest singles and albums of the year (Fleetwood Mac is mentioned in a few of them). Seeing that Billboard published its review of "Go Your Own Way" on January 8th, I'm curious if the Record World counterpart also has some sort of commentary on the song.

I understand that december release of GYOW was the original mix, wasn't it? later modified after Lindsey heard B. Mitchell Reed comment "I don't know about that one." Lindsey didn't mention the DJ in the Classic Album Rumours video but I think it's about the same change.

True.
Another thing that is interesting is I forgot how early GYOW was released in late December 1976. Its a reason they stopped releasing singles from the White album because Rumours was going to be released. They stopped releasing singles from Rumours because they did not want to burn out for their upcoming album Tusk.
These are things that would not happen today. Record companies and artists would milk everything from their albums.

It was like, 'I'll make you suffer for leaving me.' And I did."

I always thought that the shacking up line meant that Lindsey wanted his and Stevie's relationship to be more formal than living together, but Stevie appears to have a quilty conscience about what it she thought it meant. Maybe Lindsey was able to predict the future or he was already aware of Mick and Stevie's affair, but Lindsey was able to accurately predict Stevie behavior during that era. Many, many affairs. Hey, she was beautiful and men were drawn to her, but I guess we will never fully know the real story. Not that it's any of our business.

If you flip her upside down, and look at her odometer, I think you'll see that he meant something else.

In my neck of the woods, "Shacking Up" only has the direct sexual connotation. I am confused it means "living together" as some pointed out. Its very direct and no doubt put in to irk Stevie. A woman says this to a man but for a man to say this to a woman especially in 1976 was riveting.
Stevie was the sexual aggressor in GYOW but Lindsey is the sexual aggressor in Second Hand News. "lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff" When I was younger I knew it was sexual but pictured a literal meaning i.e. making love on the beach in the tall grass. But grass is used as a metaphor and has a very direct meaning : Let me GO DOWN in the tall GRASS and let me do MY STUFF.
A second hand also has a direct way of moving.

I remember an interview years ago (before Chris return) with Lindsey, Stevie and Mick. And she said that. Lindsey smiled and said "I was only joking" or something like that. And he and Mick laughed. Stevie just said "Yes, very funny".

So I understood he admitted he meant that.

I'm almost sure this was the interview but just found this segment where that part is not included. So different times, they were holding hands.
