Interesting.

But the orchestral version on WH is the best; this is one of her songs that just can't be massaged into being anything other than the big dramatic ballad that it inherently is.

I'd gladly trade it in for Beautiful Child or Storms.

But Bombay is right, it's hard to top the WH version. I had a really bad heartbreak during that era, and it was my song. I couldn't listen to it without breaking down and crying.

I've never heard this before and quite honestly don't think I ever knew it even existed. I really like it, and while I like what she finally released a few years later, this could have been an interesting change to Tusk.

I first heard this version about 15 years ago. I love it. While the WH version is stunning (and perfectly suited to that record) this is raw and drunk and the closest Stevie’s ever come to the band’s blues legacy.

I vote to put it on Tusk.
I like the Wild Heart version but I would nix it for All the Beautiful Worlds and Garbo (combined).

The organ and percussion is just too good on this demo.

This one always puzzled me. It sounds casual. They must have taken these little studio breaks frequently and kept the tape machines rolling (“Ken, did you get that wonderful serendipitous moment recorded?”). This is definitely Chris on Yamaha CP30, Mick on drums, and Lindsey on twiddle, and it’s probably John on bass. They all seem to be sort of vamping on the chord progression, undoubtedly supplied to them beforehand on paper by Stevie. Stevie wrote it in 1978, right? They did some months in the studio in 1978, we know. Before she had a solo deal, Stevie may have wanted to get Fleetwood Mac to try this for their new album. I think saving it for Buckmaster and string orchestra in 1983 was the best thing to do, in hindsight.
