Smile Dutch FM Fans - Fleetwood Bac playing in your country

The hottest Fleetwood Mac cover band "Fleetwood Bac" are playing two nights in Holland this week :-

Thursday 9th May: Pius X, Volendam, HOLLAND;
Friday 10th May: Zwaantje, Deest, HOLLAND

If you can get over and have an excellent evening of MAC rockin'
This band have recently rocked themselves across the UK and many of the UK Ledgies have had a wonderful night out watching them.

I used to feel sorry for the European Fleetwood Mac fans because the band toured so frequently only in the United States. But now that all these great Mac tribute bands are playing only in Europe, I'm not so sure I feel all that sorry for the Europeans any more. Sometimes these tribute/cover bands play sets that are a lot fresher & more daring than the real Fleetwood.

I had to check out Fleetwood Bac's Web site. I looked over the photos & downloaded a lot of the song clips. The band is really great; "John" is a dead ringer for John McVie, & "Lindsey" doesn't appear to be using a pick in the photos, which is perfect because obviously there's a concern for authenticity. I was also impressed with the sound clips: the guitar solo on "Go Your Own Way," the clip of "Tusk" & the outro on "The Chain" were blistering. I bet they rock even harder in person.

I was a little disheartened to hear so much acoustic piano voicing on a lot of the clips, like "Sisters of the Moon" & "Rhiannon" & "Go Your Own Way." If you're going for really anal authenticity, that piano really shouldn't be there. Those are Hammond B3 parts in some cases & electric piano parts in other cases. You can buy the Voce Electric Piano module for about $400 in the U.S. now, & voila you have the old Hohner combo pianet sound Christine used to play on "Rhiannon" & "Station Man" & others. Or you can get hold of the Yamaha electronic piano -- the one she switched to later on -- for a steal & get an absolutely authentic smashing sound.

The singers are all excellent, too. The band has a CD-ROM for sale with live performances on it. All these Fleetwood tribute bands that you hear about give me a chuckle sometimes because each member of the band seems to pick a different era to copy: the John McVie character looks like the John McVie on the back of "Rumours"; the Lindsey character still has his 'fro & white Les Paul; the Mick character looks like Mick on "The Dance"; & Stevie looks like a "Behind the Mask" tour Stevie Nicks.

hi ledgies!
thanks for your interest in the band and nice comments!
to answer a few of david’s points, yes I do play fingerstyle, including the acoustic ‘big love’ and the ‘rumours’ era versions of ‘oh well’ and ‘green manalishi’, except on ‘stop dragging my heart around’ where I get to play like waddy wachtel for a song.
the audio excerpts were recorded last year with our previous keyboard player, since then we’ve been joined by a brilliant ‘christine’ who’s just as obsessive as us about getting it 100% accurate, so if/when we make it to the states, hopefully you’ll see and hear the new improved version.
as for the image, we’re mainly based on the ‘rumours’ time (hence the ‘fro and les paul), but the classic stevie look that most people know is her ‘80s look, so we think it’s better to pick and mix a bit…
it’s great to get response from people who really know their stuff, it makes all the effort we put into the small details seem worthwhile.
looking forward to playing holland, so mari, and any other ledgies, if you make it to the gig, come and say hi.
see ya,
matt (‘lindsey’), fleetwood bac

Default Fleetwood Bac

I know a trip to the United States is expensive for a whole band from Britain, but maybe these guys will one day get themselves booked for a whole month or so in Vegas or Stateline, so we Americans can see them. Plus, they'd make excellent money.

Hint, hint ....
