R.I.P. "Homesick James" Williamson (96)
On December 13, "Homesick James" Williamson died in Springfield. Missouri. He was 96 years old, apparently being born (as John William Henderson) on April 30, 1910 in Somerville, Tennessee. Other sources say he was born in 1914.
Jeremy Spencer was a big fan of him and performed Williamson's 'Got to move', 'My baby's sweet', 'Can't afford to do it', 'Can't hold out' [a.k.a. 'Talk to me baby'] & 'Baby please set a date'. Now, only two "90+" blues pioneers are alive: Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, born July 7, 1913, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, born June 28, 1915. He played with Fleetwood Mac on the Chess sessions in January 1969. GJK Last edited by GJK; 12-28-2006 at 07:06 AM.. Reason: Typo in birthdate |
