Default Songbird downloads

The Fleetwood Mac Legacy website has various versions of "Songbird" available for download this week, including the Eva Cassidy & the new Willie Nelson covers. Just click on SOTW on the left side of the page & it'll take you to the download page.

Thanks for the link (for those of us who don't frequent the site). I enjoyed listening to both versions, neither of which I'd heard before.

I don't like Eva Cassidy's version at all. I really hate that "diva style" of singing, with all that vocal showing off, adding notes in that don't belong in the melody. Plus, I don't care for the arrangement -- just 'cause a song's a ballad doesn't mean it should sound sappy. Christine's vocal on the original simply can't be beat, nor can the original arrangement, with the glorious grand piano.

On the other hand, I really like Willie Nelson's version. He has a nice heartfelt way of singing the song; he makes no attempt to sing it prettily -- that's not his style -- but I hear a true emotion in his vocal. It's a whole new interpretation of the song and brings a whole different feel to it. I also like the arrangement a lot; it has a perky tempo, while still staying within the range of being a ballad, and it even has a good, appropriately short guitar solo there in the middle.

I don't like anything that Eva has covered. She draws things out unnecessarily. Like, her cover of Time After Time? Painful. I don't like this Songbird at all. Now, Sandra Bernhard's version? That's a cover!
