Review In The Meantime
Thought this was interesting...
Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac's cool as an oyster chanteuse--ying to Stevie Nick's quirky yang--decided to pass on Mac's latest reunion efforts, prompting her former bandmates to insist that the icy blonde was fed up with the music business, and planned to retreat to her country home. But it seems that McVie was only fed up with her former compatriots, and stealthily recorded In the Meantime, her first solo album in two decades rather than participate in reconfiguring the seventies pop monolith. And just so we know she means business, she not-so-cryptically tackles the invitation from Mick, Stevie, Lindsay and John on the anxious and vituperrious "Bad Journey," leaving no doubt in fan's minds that she's shut the door on her past for good. Meantime finds the formerly winsome musician newly empowered with claws fully extended--penning songs that crackle with ire and ennui without any of the frothy self-deception of the past, whether on the casual hit-or-miss sex of "Anything is Possible" or the chilly kiss-off of "Sweet Revenge." --Jaan Uhelszki

"They love each other so much, they think they hate each other." Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way" Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart. |

That's interesting. I never thought that Bad Journey might be about the Mac. I always thought Friend might be about John though.

I always thought she was talking somewhat about Mac... and the life she had foregone in love and family....

Listening to it now it seems obvious, but before I always took it as another love-gone-wrong song because there's quite a few of those on the album.
Ah, In The Meantime, it stills sounds really good I think.

I always thought Forgiveness reminded me more of FM. I guess I never thought she intended them in the lyrics, but that's what always jumped out at me.

I remember reading that review and liking it, though I don't think any of the songs are about Fleetwood Mac.

Well what's so good about it.. is that it's left open for interpretation...
