The Sailor Moon Thread
OK, so I can't be the only one here who was a major Sailor Moon fan growing up, can I?
Well... yes I suppose I could be, actually. But I thought I'd try my luck anyway. C'mon people! Anyone else around here completely stoked by the premiere of Sailor Moon Crystal yesterday? It's as completely overwrought and absurd as ever, and I absolutely loved episode 1. It's made me want to go watch the entire 90s cartoon all over again, after having not really thought about the show at all for a few years. Here's the trailer for those who don't know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUiewJt80eQ I still can't get over Sailor Mercury now having actual hair that moves. How exciting! Anyone a fan with thoughts? Or should I just go back to my corner? |

Yes! It's a reboot, so the first episode, being the "origin story", is basically exactly how the first episode of the original anime was story-wise, but is different in some interesting ways, and I think it's likely to be quite different as the series progresses.
As you're in America, it's available on Hulu. But it's available worldwide (in sadly lower quality) on nicovideo.jp. Here's a link to the subbed ep: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/140436...arch_key_video Be sure to turn off the comment-scroll if it's your first time watching! Wow! It does seem pretty much the same. Except the characters are taller and slimmer. Maybe this season will be based more off the anime. Otherwise I'd have to ask "What's the point?"

I'll wait until the season has been dubbed (like with Attack on Titan) but I can't wait. It's so gay and fabulous, I love Sailor Moon.
Apparently the new anime is sticking more closely to the original Manga, so that's pretty cool.

I'd be happy either way. I like the manga story, but comics as a medium are one I have extreme difficulty getting into, so I'd appreciate a telling of that story in a format that's more immersive to me. But I'd also like there to be a bit more development of the characters than the manga offered, especially the bad guys, who really had no characterisation at all in the original manga. New imaginings of those characters would be pretty cool. Last edited by Dex; 07-13-2014 at 04:25 AM.. |

I watched the original show 'back in the day' on the basis that I have to watch any show with a talking cat in it. Frankly I'm too old for this... by that I mean that I remember having preschool crushes on Marineboy and Speed Racer!
I have trouble with some comics with really confusing page layouts and overly detailed art styles, but I like old Osamu Tezuka manga and stuff like Beanworld. I used to buy comics titled Go Girl, Bone, Zot and Mars you might be able to pick up cheap as they probably have no collectable superhero 'universe' factor. I used to like the X-Men actually... except for a lot of the gaudy costumes they somehow knew when to put on without talking about it, back when the original Phoenix was eating suns and there was a twelve year old girl 'breaking out' Tomorrow People style I could relate to (I was breaking out then too, but clearasil dealt with it and no gaudy costumes were needed). I'd love to make imaginative original cartoony sf comics for kids today but it's all been specialist shops for adults for so long... |

Hi Becca!
I'm (way) too old for this too. But watching this reboot just makes me feel like I'm 10 again. Act 2 is up. And it's awesome. Still can't get over Mercury having actual hair that moves. It's a good look for her. http://ch.nicovideo.jp/sailormoon_En...r=ustop_entame |
