Exclamation Billboard posted as Gold

Well, I checked riaa.com, and they don't have it as such, but Billboard has The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac posted as gold already! When an album is gold, they put a little circle next to the title, and there's one next to it. I honestly don't see how it could BE gold, it's only been out a month and fell 45 spaces between then and now (it is currently at #57), but they say it's gold. Maybe it's the whole "double album" thing where, if you buy it, they count it as selling two albums instead of one. I don't know if that's true...someone told me that a long time ago (when an album is double each sale is counted twice). That's really strange too, because that means that really Tusk only sold a million (it's double platinum) if they count each sale as 2. But, I guess we should not worry about it and just be glad it's gold. YAY, GO FM!

To be absolutely honest, I think that's really appalling... Why has the album done so badly over there? And the US has the well tracklisted, enhanced double CD....! I thought all of America loved Fleetwood Mac...? I don't get it.....

Correction: Tusk has sold, by some estimates, more than 6 million copies.

In the U.S., Tusk sold at least 4 million copies. When I said more than 6 million, I was going for a conservative worldwide figure.

See, that's what I originally thought, but RIAA has it posted only at 2x platinum. So something really screwed up is going on. The only explanation I can think of is that the RIAA DIDN'T use Tusk's double album status when counting. Therefore, if you count it as two albums per sale, it would be 4x platinum, but for some reason the RIAA overlooked the double album thing and just are using figures for it as a single album. Ugh, who knows?

Even though 'Tusk' was a double album on vinyl, I wonder if the fact that it's only on *one* CD, has anything to do with the odd discrepancy on the RIAA site?

Johnny Stew
But it specifically states on the cover of the CD that Tusk is a "2 record set on 1 specially priced disk", so surely that means that every copy of Tusk sold, regardless of the format, is counted as a double album, and therefore a "double sale"....?
