I can easily diss any artist who writes their own music if I think it's utter crap. Writing a song does not equal writing a good song. Writing a song does not equal having talent. Her music is cheesy as all hell and in one of the ****ty songs I've heard, she says she wants to be dressed up in dirt. Unfortunately, that's not possible since all the dirt in the world is on skanky Miss "I Wanna Be Dirt-tay" Aguilera, but that's not the point. Point is, she writes inane and cliched songs. Her voice is average and she has no sense of style that distinguishes her from any other pop tart in the current market. Cheese is cheese. If you like cheese, more power to ya. But I'd prefer seeking out music that has artistic merit and that has a bit more depth to it than "dress me up in dirt," or whatever the hell the lip-syncher says. But, then again, I'm a fancy-pants elitist.
Blondie is not cheese? Maria, Tide Is High, Good Boys? It seems they only release their cheesiest songs to the masses.

No, Blondie isn't cheese. What separates Blondie from crap like Asslee Simpson is that their material has true artistic merit and has been incredibly influential in the history of music. They were almost alien in their genius and the reason their classic songs hold up so well, like them or not, is because they were lightyears ahead of their peers and their time. Think of the periods in which those songs were released and it's rather chilling how brilliant they were as a band, IMO.

I'd like to see Miss Simpson tackle all the genres Blondie has. She'd fall flat on her ass.

It takes a lot of musical talent and artistry, the level of which Ashlee Simpson has yet to display, to create perfect pop music as Blondie has. Debbie Harry is also an infinitely more talented, versatile, and charismatic singer and performer than Ashlee Simpson. Debbie Harry is light-years more attractive than Ashlee, too, but that's another story completely...Oh, and Blondie trumps any of Simpson's music in an instrumental sense. I wonder what Jimmy Destri could do with all those interesting keyboard textures if he were to work with Stevie Nicks...
I agree.

As much as I'd love to see any sort of collaboration between Stevie and a member of Blondie, though, it would be a match made in hell. Could you imagine her trying to keep up with them?

I also enjoy some cheese from time to time. Got Ashlee's CD for Xmas. I don't think she's on her way to being a music legend, but she's not bad, IMO. Catchy tunes.

I never minded Jessica's singing until I caught a glimpse of her on that damned Xmas special - Godawful! It was disurbing. I kept thinking "OMG, will she be pissed if they get any still-shots from this." Her facial expressions & arm movements were beyond distracting, I thought she was going to have a seizure. And I will never forget her terrible rendition of "With You" on the AMA's (I think?) - they got a shot of Sheryl Crow watching her, expressionless, then she just looked away & started looking around the room/the ceiling/ anything except Jessica. Priceless.

That being said, I haven't heard Friend AT ALL here, dammit!

Jessica has the better voice in a technical way, but I prefer Ashlee's style (I can't believe I'm debating the merits of the Simpson Sisters).

A steady, straightforward, sincere singing style (God, I love alliteration) pleases my ears FAR more than the technically proficient singers who make it a point to SHOW us exactly how proficient they are at every turn.

I prefer Selma, I never cared for Patti, personally.

Good one!

Though, technically, Patty and Selma are the BOUVIER sisters.

I already made all of those points posts ago when I was pretending to be you.

Yes, but could it truly have the same impact if I wasn't saying it?

I heard "Friend" tonight while my husband and I were eating dinner at Stir Fry Cafe. They always play really interesting music in there, and I had to tell our waiter to tell the manager what a great choice of music that was.

Exactly! We know you can actually sing, so stop f*cking around with your voice trying to hit 72 notes in one word & just SING, for f*ck's sake!

BTW, I recently discovered that I really like the phrase "for f*ck's sake" so you may be seeing it more often in my posts.

I keep changing my mind on that subject. Sometimes I think people should stop being so f*cking fancy (Christine reference there) and sometimes I find it impressive. I can't decide. I think it sometimes depends on the song, IMO.

Hillary, make up your mind, for f*ck's sake!

I know what you mean, though. For some reason, it does not bother me that much when Whitney Houston does it (well, used to do it anyway.)
Xtina - OK
Mariah - eh.
Jessica - nevah!
